Effects of unsteadiness and non-Newtonian rheology on blood flow through a tapered time-variant stenotic artery

Abstract: A two-dimensional model is used to analyze the unsteady pulsatile flow of blood through a tapered artery with stenosis. The rheology of the flowing blood is captured by the constitutive equation of Carreau model. The geometry of the time-variant stenosis has been used to carry out the present analysis. The flow equations are set up under the assumption that the lumen radius is sufficiently smaller than the wavelength of the pulsatile pressure wave. A radial coordinate transformation is employed to immobilize t… Show more

“…Coronary artery disease is caused by atherosclerosis that occurred due to stenosis which formed as a result of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products, and smooth muscle cells accumulation on the arterial wall, [1]. Stenosis is a localize plaque that cause the narrowing on the vessel wall and causing an alternation in the flow structure which consequently reduced the fluid flow passing to the other organs and tissues, [2] As the plaque tend to rupture, an individual may suffer to the risk of cardiovascular disease such as heart attack and stroke.…”

“…In this research we forced the body to have a certain acceleration to be closer to the real model (Travelers roller coaster, using jackhammer and etc.) compared with the previous works, in this way, a dynamical parameter is added to the simulation of blood flow [11][12]. This acceleration affects the blood flow to have some abnormal and sometimes dangerous reactions against the sudden movements which need to be investigated (loss of vision, increasing heart rate, abdominal pain, bleeding in the face) [13][14][15].…”

“…Some recent studies dealing with flows of Carreau fluids can be found in refs. [18][19][20]. Moreover, it is strongly anticipated that the speed of the organism, forces generated by organism and power required for propulsion will be substantially influenced by the material relaxation time and the rheological power-law index.…”
