Effects of Trimoprostil on Healing and Recurrence of Acetic Acid-induced Gastric Ulcer in Rats

Abstract: Abstract-Chronic gastric ulcers were produced by injection of 20% acetic acid (0.05 ml) into the submucosal layer of the rat stomach in order to determine the effects of the prostanoid trimoprostil on the healing and recurrence of ulcers. Local injection of acetic acid solution produced large demarcated ulcers in all animals on day 5, which rapidly decreased to reach low levels on days 40-80 and then became exacerbated on day 100. The exacerbation of the ulcer is probably recurrence. Trimoprostil was administe… Show more

“…In addition, exogenously administered PGs significantly prevent development of mucosal damage, as well as delay in ulcer healing. 179) We confirmed that the delayed healing caused by indomethacin was clearly prevented by concurrent treatment with PGE 2 for a period of 2 or 4 weeks. 38) Mizuno et al 180) reported with acetic acid ulcers induced in mice that generation of PGs was significantly increased in the ulcerated area through the action of COX-2.…”

“…As expected, PG analogs significantly enhanced the spontaneous healing of acetic acid ulcers and prevented a delay in ulcer healing by repeated indomethacin treatment. [93][94][95][96][97] Penney et al 98) demonstrated that misoprostol reversed the delayed healing effect of aspirin via an effect on epithelial regeneration. Arakawa et al 99) examined the effects of rebamipide, a novel PG-inducer, on healing and relapse of acetic acid ulcers in rats.…”

“…Table 1. Effect of Danshen in rat chronic gastric ulcers of different stages and gastric mucosal cell multiplication is shown in Table 2 DISCUSSION It is reported in the literature [5,6] that the natural healing process of acetic acid-induced gastric ulcer in rats is as follows: On day 1-35 UI decreased rapidly which is considered as acute stage; UI decreased steadily and slowly on day 36-80, which is a slow healing stage; UI slightly increased as the recurrence stage; UI increased obviously on day 120-140, the recurrence rate being the highest. In this experiment, we treated the ulcer with Danshen and cimetidine from day 1-30 to observe their therapeutic effects in the acute stage.…”
