The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges for educational institutions worldwide, including Universiti Teknologi MARA , Cawangan Pulau Pinang (UiTMCPP) in Malaysia. During the pandemic, the campus experienced a lockdown with 255 students, leading to potential stress, anxiety, and depression among the student population. To assess the students' mental health, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS) was employed as a tool to measure their levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Based on the survey conducted, it was found that a significant percentage of students experienced normal levels of stress (70%), anxiety (55%), and depression (60%). However, a small percentage of students reported extremely severe cases of stress (0.8%), anxiety (7.1%), and depression (2.7%). These findings provided insight into the students' mental health condition during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period. In response to these findings, the Student Affair Department at UiTMCPP took appropriate actions based on a situational leadership approach. The leadership team recognized the need to adapt their leadership style to the unique situation presented by the pandemic. They took steps to provide support and assistance to students who were experiencing higher levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. This may have included offering counselling services, providing resources for mental health support, and creating initiatives to foster a supportive and inclusive campus environment during the challenging times of the pandemic. The situational leadership approach allowed the Student Affair Department to effectively respond to the needs of the students, taking into consideration the specific situation of the lockdown and the mental health challenges faced by the students. By being flexible and adaptable in their leadership approach, the Student Affair Department was able to provide appropriate support to the students and help them cope with the stress, anxiety, and depression caused by the pandemic.

Higher education institutions are the witness of organizational perception shifting from "student" to "customer". Therefore, an effective lecturer's leadership is critically needed. This study aims at analyzing the role of a lecturer's transformational leadership and class climate in influencing student’s attitude in the higher education context. The samples of this study were 150 students in the big five faculty at Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia, namely the Faculty of Humanities, Medicine, Engineering, Law, and Economics and Business determined by quota sampling. The data collection method used was a self-administered questionnaire. The technique of analysis implemented for testing the hypotheses was Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The findings show that for direct effect, transformational leadership of the lecture has a positive and significant effect on objective commitment, learning motivation, and learning satisfaction of students; class climate has a positive and significant influence on learning satisfaction of students; and learning motivation has a positive and significant effect on student's objective commitment. Meanwhile, learning motivation has no impact on learning satisfaction. The results of the indirect effect show that learning motivation partially mediate the effect of lecturer’s transformational leadership on student’s objective commitment. Meanwhile, the learning motivation of students does not emerge as a mediator of the effect of transformational leadership on learning satisfaction. It is for the lecturers to develop and improve student learning motivation through their leadership which furtherly affects students' objective commitment in the endeavor to achieve high academic performance.

Teacher leadership style, quality of teaching and students' satisfaction are considered the keys to produce high-quality graduates and to enhance teaching-learning experiences in higher education. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between English language lecturers` leadership styles and student satisfaction. The quantitative method was used in data collection. The study population was students of undergraduate university programs and a sample of 196 was drawn. A total of two sets of instruments were used for collection of data and analyzed by using the correlation and regression statistics. This study used an adapted form of Bass and Avolio's (1995) Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire 5x-Short (MLQ) to measure the Transformational and Transactional leadership styles and a questionnaire proposed by the researcher to identify and measure educational student satisfaction. This study has provided some of the key determinants of educational student satisfaction. The results of the study indicated that there was a positive and significant relationship between lecturers` transformational leadership and student satisfaction. However, there was a negative significant relationship between transactional leadership style and student satisfaction. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the lecturers display transformational practices to enhance the satisfaction of the students.
