Materials and methods PatientsSeventy patients who had applied to the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Education and Research Hospital with LBP were evaluated. Patients who were 25-75 years old and who had LBP for at least 3 months were included. The exclusion criteria were: patients with certain surgical indications (motor, sensory, or reflex impairment), history of epilepsy, pregnancy, cardiac failure, respiratory failure, Background/aim: The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effect of different physical therapy (PT) session numbers on pain, impairment. and quality of life in patients with chronic low back pain (LBP). Materials and methods:In this prospective, randomized-controlled, single-blind trial, a total of 60 patients with chronic LBP were divided into 2 groups with simple randomization within the scope of the study. A PT program of a total of 10 sessions was applied for patients in Group 10 (n = 30) and a total of 15 sessions for patients in Group 15 (n = 30). The main outcome measures were fingertip-tofloor distance (FFD), a visual analog scale (VAS), the modified Oswestry Disability Index (mODI), and the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). Results:We found statistically significant differences in both groups between the before-treatment (BT) and after-treatment (AT) results in terms of all evaluation parameters. We detected significant differences between the 2 groups in terms of AT VAS, mODI, NHP Pain, and NHP Total; however, no significant differences were found in terms of FFD and the other NHP subdimension levels. Conclusion:We determined that 15 treatment sessions were more effective than 10 sessions on pain and disability in patients with chronic LBP.

Ö ÖZ ZE ET T A Am ma aç ç: : Çalışmamız, kronik bel ağrısı olan hastalarda ağrı, özürlülük durumu ve psikolojik faktörlerin incelenmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Demografik veriler kaydedildikten sonra, bireylerde ağrı durumunu sorgulamak için, Görsel Ağrı Skalası, özürlülük derecesini belirlemede Oswestry Özürlülük İndeksi ve kişilik durumunun belirlenmesi için Minnesota Çok Yönlü Kişilik Envanteri kullanılmıştır. B Bu ul lg gu ul la ar r: : Hastaların yaş ortalaması (bel ağrısı olan I. Grup) 39,90±10,41 yıl ve kontrol grubunun (ağrısı olmayan II. Grup) yaş ortalaması 37,67±11,17 yıldır. I. grubun ağrı şiddeti ortalaması 6,39±1,59 ve ağrı süresi 4,73±5,63 yıl bulunmuştur. Bel ağrısı olan grubun Oswestry Özürlülük İndeksi puan ortalaması 35,75±7,46 saptanmıştır. Gruplar Minnesota Çok Yönlü Kişilik Envanteri puanları açısından karşılaştırıldıklarında, hipokondriyazis bulguları (p=0,006), depresyon bulguları (p=0,003) ve dissimulasyon (ikiyüzlü-lük) bulguları (p=0,040) istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur. Kronik bel ağrısı olan grupta Minnesota Çok Yönlü Kişilik Envanteri testi sonuçlarının daha yüksek olduğu görülmüştür. Kronik bel ağrısı olan grupta ağrı bulguları ile depresyon arasında (p=0,001), hipokondriyazis arasında (p<0,001) ve histerik davranışlar arasında (p<0,001) pozitif yönde ileri düzeyde anlamlı bir ilgileşim bulunmuştur. Purpose: To explore the frequency and patterns of ultrasound (US) usage among physical therapists, to describe the most common purposes for using therapeutic US, and to investigate beliefs about therapeutic US. Methods: A survey was sent to 95% of physical therapists licensed to practise in the province of Alberta, Canada. Results: Of 2,269 physical therapists to whom email invitations were sent, 438 (19.3%) provided full responses. Results indicate that US is still frequently incorporated into treatment regimens and is widely believed to be effective; however, the study also found a decrease in US usage over the past 15 years. While physical therapists recognize the lack of evidence for the effectiveness of US, many consider it clinically useful. Physical therapists using US rely largely on their clinical experience when making decisions about its use, but this depends on level of education: clinicians with an MScPT degree tended to base more of their US decisions on research evidence, likely because of the increasing emphasis on research evidence in graduate education. Conclusions: Despite the questionable effectiveness of therapeutic US, physical therapists still commonly use this treatment modality, largely because of a belief that US is clinically useful. However, US usage has decreased over the past 15 years.Key Words: ultrasonic therapy; surveys, beliefs. RÉ SUMÉObjectif : Explorer la fré quence et les tendances de l'utilisation de l'é chographie chez les physiothé rapeutes, dé crire les raisons thé rapeutiques les plus courantes d'utiliser l'é chographie thé rapeutique et analyser les croyances relatives à l'é chographie thé rapeutique. Mé thodes : On a envoyé un questionnaire à 95% des PT autorisé s à pratiquer en Alberta, au Canada. Ré sultats : Sur 2 269 physiothé rapeutes qui ont é té invité s par courriel, 438 (19,3%) ont ré pondu au questionnaire au complet. Les ré sultats indiquent que l'é chographie fait toujours partie fré quemment des protocoles de traitement et que l'on croit gé né ralement qu'elle est efficace. L'é tude a toutefois ré vé lé aussi une baisse de l'utilisation de l'é chographie au cours des 15 derniè res anné es. Les physiothé rapeutes reconnaissent peut-ê tre le manque de donné es probantes sur l'efficacité de l'é chographie, mais beaucoup d'entre eux la jugent utile sur le plan clinique. Les physiothé rapeutes qui utilisent l'é chographie s'en remettent en grande partie à leur expé rience clinique lorsqu'ils prennent une dé cision sur son utilisation, mais tout dé pend du niveau d'é ducation: les cliniciens qui ont une maîtrise en physiothé rapie ont tendance à fonder davantage leur dé cision d'y recourir sur des donné es de recherche, probablement parce qu'on accorde de plus en plus d'importance aux donné es de recherche au cours des é tudes supé rieures.
