Effects of the radiant heating system location on both the airflow and ventilation efficiency in a room

Abstract: The effect of temperature of the heating system elements is a parameter that could affect the airflow in terms of buoyancy and thermal comfort and that should be studied to ensure the quality of ventilation. This study aimed to assess the air change efficiency and thermal comfort with three thermal conditioning systems (radiators, underfloor heating and radiant ceiling) in winter conditions, varying its position in the interior space. This can be used by architects and engineers when planning the position of t… Show more

“…The Realizable k-ε model has been commonly used in the literature to simulate indoor ventilation airflow. 36,37 The governing equations can be written in the general form of a transport equation, equation (1), which consists of a transient term, a convection term, a diffusion term and a source term: where ρ is the air density, V is the air velocity vector, ϕ denotes the transported quantity, normalΓϕ is the (effective) diffusion coefficient of ϕ and Sϕ is the source term.…”

“…17 Effects of the radiant system location on both the air change efficiency and thermal comfort have been studied. 18 The design of radiant cooling panels with different aspect ratio, serpentine flow architecture has been studied, and the design toward compactness is a way to increase the ratio of cooling capacity over pumping power. 19 An improved system for enhancing the air flow disturbance to increase heat transfer between the aluminium sheets and cooling panels has been suggested, which reduces system capital cost by using less pipe materials.…”

“…5 Building ventilation is also an effective approach for removing indoor containments and improving indoor air quality (IAQ) [6][7][8][9] and thermal comfort. 10,11 Because of these merits, hybrid ventilation has been widely studied and applied in different types of buildings in the world. Antvorskov 12 introduced hybrid ventilation systems for residential buildings in European Union (EU) with possible integration of renewable energy solutions.…”
