Effects of Reciprocal Rewarding on the Evolution of Cooperation in Voluntary Social Dilemmas

Abstract: Voluntary participation, as an effective mechanism to promote cooperation in game theory, has been widely concerned. In the meanwhile, reciprocal rewarding plays an important role in motivating individual initiative. Inspired by this phenomenon, we investigate the effect of reciprocal rewarding on the evolutionary cooperation in spatial social dilemmas, including prisoner's dilemma game and the snowdrift game with voluntary participation. In our model, a cooperative individual fitness will be redefined if one … Show more

“…In addition, our participants were concentrated among college students, which may present some kind of personality homogeneity. Previous studies have confirmed that individuals can present the heterogeneity, which may help to promote the expectation of cooperation ( Li et al, 2019a , b ). Therefore, whether the results of this study can be generalized to a wider range of people also needs further confirmation in future studies.…”

“…Considering that the effect of parameter K has been well explored in the previous works [46,47], we will set K = 0.1 in this work without lacking the generality. If the focal agent x succeeds in adopting the strategy of his direct neighbor y, it means that the neighbor y s influence will be magnified by the value of β [48], which can be expressed quantitatively by the following formula:…”

“…Ultimately, the cognitive-behavioral differences created a social dilemma that hindered poverty alleviation. To explain these social dilemmas and achieve cooperation, many social physicists have made remarkable contributions (Li et al, 2019 ; Tanimoto, 2019 ; Shen et al, 2021 ). Nowak ( 2006 ) presented five rules for the evolution of cooperation as follows: kin selection, group selection, direct reciprocity, indirect reciprocity, and network reciprocity.…”
