Effects of Radix Astragali and Its Split Components on Gene Expression Profiles Related to Water Metabolism in Rats with the Dampness Stagnancy due to Spleen Deficiency Syndrome

Abstract: Radix Astragali (RA) with slight sweet and warm property is a significant “qi tonifying” herb; it is indicated for the syndrome of dampness stagnancy due to spleen deficiency (DSSD). The purpose of this research was to explore effects of RA and its split components on gene expression profiles related to water metabolism in rats with the DSSD syndrome for identifying components representing property and flavor of RA. The results indicated that RA and its split components, especially polysaccharides component, s… Show more

“…Chinese medicine practice over thousands of years has confirmed that A. membranaceus functions to replenish qi, which strengthens body resistance, promotes diuretic detoxification, heals sores, and prompts muscles. 9 12 It contains many chemical components, such as polysaccharides, saponins, flavonoids, amino acids, and certain trace elements. Our study found that Chahuangjing exhibits diuretic, tritium-removing, and free-radical-scavenging effects, which reduce internal HTO radiation injury.…”

“…Based on the equivalent dose coefficient algorithm, the rat equivalent dose was 6.3 times that of adults per body weight unit. The abstract was administered by gavage with the dose of 5.40g·kg −1 ·d −1 , 0.54g/ml, 10ml/kg [ 21 ]. The administration was performed once a day, seven consecutive days [ 6 ].…”

“…Aer 3 d of continuous gavage, the drug was administered aer 30 min for the last gavage. [18][19][20] These model rats were randomly divided into: the model group (distilled water 20 mL kg À1 ); the furosemide positive control group (20 mg kg À1 ) and salted Alisma orientale groups including Fujian, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Hebei, Hubei, Guangxi, and Henan (the extract of the high dose was equivalent to 4.0 g kg À1 of the crude drug and the low dose was equivalent to 0.9 g kg À1 relative to the crude drug). All animal procedures were performed in accordance with the guidelines approved by the Experimental Animal Research Committee of China Pharmaceutical University and approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of China Pharmaceutical University.…”
