Effects of Qingshen Granules on the Oxidative Stress‐NF/kB Signal Pathway in Unilateral Ureteral Obstruction Rats

Abstract: Background. The activation of NF-kappa B (NF/kB) signaling pathway plays an important role in the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) in renal tubules. The process of oxidative stress reaction in kidney is via excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production to activate NF/kB signaling pathway. Qingshen Granule (QSG) is an effective Chinese formula utilized to treat chronic renal failure. Previous studies confirmed that QSG could inhibit RIF in unilateral … Show more

“…The activation of NF-ĸB usually promotes the expression of pro-inflammatory markers and apoptosis. The increased production of the inflammatory markers such as TNFα further activates NF-ĸB leading to prolonged and persistent inflammatory response [ 47 , 48 ].…”

“…NF-ĸB, a pivotal inflammatory factor is activated in the podocytes, mesangial cells and tubular cells [ 10 ]. Increased expression and activation of NF-ĸB in these cells results in the production of pro-inflammatory factors and eventually apoptosis [ 47 ]. Decreased apoptosis was reported in NFκB tubular epithelial-specific knockout mice due to less activation of NFκB and reduced chemokine expression [ 48 ].…”

“…The study conducted by Jin and his colleagues has demonstrated that the oxidative stress/NF- κ B signal pathway contributed to the formation of unilateral ureteral obstruction renal interstitial fibrosis [ 52 ]. Under hypoxic environment, excessive ROS can activate the NF/ κ B signaling pathway and then promote the expression of HIF-1 α [ 53 ].…”

“…Glomerular edema results from obstruction in the renal tubules (Zayed et al, 2018), evident by the presence of edematous epithelial lining, intra-tubular cellular debris and intra-tubular hyaline casts in the renal tubules. Redox disturbance is a main causative factor in renal obstruction by hindering fluid outflow (Jin et al, 2018).…”
