“…Cerebrospinal fluid ACTH concentrations were low, as compared to the pituitary and peripheral plasma ACTH concentration, which was a finding similar to that reported in the rhesus monkey (Kalin et al 1985). The concentrations of p-endorphin found in the peripheral plasma and CSF were similar to those reported previously in horses (Wilson et al 1982;Hudson et al 1986;Hamra et al 1993) and sheep (Stark et al 1982;Shutt et al 1989). but were higher than in cattle (Aurich et al 1990) and man (Lacoumenta et al 1987).…”

“…The cortisol and ACTH values reported in the present study were similar to those described previously in horses (Hoffsis and Murdick 1970;James et al 1970;Wilson et al 1982) and in man (Milsom et al 1986). However, when compared with other species, cortisol values were higher than those reported in the bull (Thun et al 1981), sheep (Shutt et al 1989) and dog Raff et al 1989). The ACTH values, on the other hand, were similar to those found in the dog Raff et al 1989) and the observed gradient between the pituitary and peripheral ACTH plasma concentration was similar to that previously reported in the horse (Redekopp et al 1986).…”
