Effects of Landfill Gas Flow Trajectories at Three Distinct Temperature Phases on the Stress-Strain-Displacement Properties of a Gas Extraction Pip

Abstract: The rate of MSW generation is increasing and at present, there is no single engineered landfill designed to address the challenges posed by MSW generation in Nigeria. Unmanaged open dump sites and uncontrolled MSW disposal is currently practiced in Nigeria, thus this research work which is focused on the effects of landfill gas flow trajectories at three distinct temperature phases on the stress-strain-displacement properties of a gas extraction. Conservation mass equation was derived for solid, liquid, and ga… Show more

“…There is no town in Nigeria being in rural or urban area that can boast of finding a lasting solution to the problem of filth and huge piles of solid wastes. In Nigeria, solid wastes are dumped indiscriminately, and this has led to blockage of drainages, thus causing environmental pollution (Ogwueleka, 2009 (Orhorhoro et al, 2018b). To average Nigerians, public hygiene starts and ends in their immediate surrounding and indeed the city would take care of itself.…”

“…An engineered landfill system also known as sanitary landfill is a waste containment facility that involves carefully engineered excavation of the ground and burying/compaction of waste materials in layers to protect the environment against the effects of landfill gas and leachate from decomposing organic waste (Ikpe et al, 2018;Orhorhoro et al, 2018). Leachate which contains organic and inorganic chemicals, acidic oxides such as SO2 and NOx, heavy metals as well as pathogens is a toxic liquid product from decomposing organic waste (Ikpe et al, 2019a;Rowe and Yu, 2013).…”
