Effects of kaolin and maleic anhydride contents on melt elasticity and flexural behaviour of polypropylene/kaolin and unplasticised poly(vinyl chloride)/kaolin composites

Abstract: Polypropylene/kaolin and unplasticised poly(vinyl chloride)/kaolin composites were prepared by directly melt mixing polypropylene (PP) and unplasticised poly(vinyl chloride) (UPVC) with maleic anhydride (MAH) and low cost kaolin via in situ extrusion process. The influences of kaolin particles and MAH in PP and UPVC matrix were discussed through investigating the flexural and morphological properties of filled PP and UPVC composites. The extrudates obtained from the extrusion process were carefully collected i… Show more

“…In addition, it shows irregular morphology due to thinning at the drawn part. Figure (11) shows the 3D distribution of birefringence values at λ = 540 nm. The distribution of birefringence showed a gradual transition zone at the necking zone from low birefringence to high birefringence values.…”

“…The process of molecular orientation occurs as a result of softening of the bonds during stretching to reach a state of similar to melting. Then, the applied stress extends the molecular chains and alignment of chains takes place [11].…”

“…Using different polymers in blend usually show significant change in polymer melt flow behavior. There are many results about the effects of micro sized particles [8][9][10] and some results about the effects of nano sized particles [11][12][13] on the capillary rheological properties of polymer blends, however, this information is incomplete in respects to polymer blend composition and nanofillers used. Concentration of ZnO particles is chosen in the range between 0.1 to 2 wt.% because at higher concentrations increased agglomeration of nanoparticles reduces it modification efficiency.…”
