Effects of herbal ointment containing the leaf extracts of Madeira vine (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) for burn wound healing process on albino rats

Abstract: Aim:Skin burn is a health problem that requires fast and accurate treatment. If not well-treated, the burn will cause various damaging conditions for the patient. The leaf extract of Madeira vine (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis), or popularly known as Binahong in Indonesia, has been used to treat various diseases. The purpose of this research is to determine the effects of leaf extracts of Madeira vine (A. cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) on skin burn healing process in rats as an animal model.Materials and Meth… Show more

“…56 Considering this fact, utilization of an anti-inammatory agent at the wound site to prevent invasion of microorganisms and to avoid infection, which ultimately supports an increase in the count of broblast cells and collagen formation, has become a valuable approach. 57,58 The present study demonstrated that ZnOTP showed signicant in vitro anti-inammatory activity in a dose dependent manner by analyzing signicant membrane stabilization and albumin denaturation along with proteinase inhibitory activity. It has been reported that ZnO nanoparticles upregulate TNF-a levels in acute as well as chronic inammatory conditions and TNF-a, IL-1b and IL-6 coordinate inammatory responses in immune cells and have been employed in the treatment of different inammatory diseases.…”

“…Steenis), one of 6000 types of plants in Indonesia, have been used for several health treatments [1]. Binahong has pharmacological effects such as anti-bacterial [2][3][4][5], anti-fungal [6], anti-aging [7], anti-diabetes [8], wound healing [9][10][11], anti-inflammatory [12], anti-oxidant [13], anti-cancer [14], anti-obesity [15] and anti-hyperuricemia [16]. Due to its pharmacological activities, binahong was potential to be developed as traditional medicine.…”

“…Animals that are often used to find new types of medicines for wound healing in research studies are rats. 1 2 Wound healing in tooth extraction is needed in animal models so that the effect of drugs given can contribute to faster recovery. The process of wound healing in hard tissue that involves the alveolar bone is very complex because it involves soft and hard tissues.…”
