This study focuses on the transformation of selected glasses consisting of 20Fe2O3-(5+x) PbO2-(75-x)TeO2 (where x = 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 mol%) with varying concentrations of PbO2, into nanomaterials through annealing at a temperature close to the crystallization temperature (Tc). The physical and chemical properties of the resulting samples were investigated. The chemical structure was analyzed using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), which revealed no significant chemical changes except for an increase in the concentration of PbO2. X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to study the crystal structure. Improvements were seen with increasing PbO2 concentrations, and these improvements were further increased after the sample was annealed. Furthermore, positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) spectroscopy was used to study the microstructure, more precisely the size of vacancy-type defects. A correlation was established between the PAL and the properties of the samples. The size of the vacancy-type defects was confirmed by calculating the distribution of the long lifetime deduced from the PAL. In this work, the overall influence of PbO2 concentration and thermal treatment on the chemical and crystalline structures, electrical conductivity, and microstructure of the studied nanomaterials is highlighted. The results provide valuable insights into the relationship between the PAL and the properties of the samples and provide potential opportunities to tailor their properties for different applications.

This article presents investigated results on physical, electrical and gamma radiation shielding properties of glasses of composition, (P2O5)0.25-(TeO2)0.5-x-(Na2O)0.1- (ZnO)0.15-(CoO)x (x= 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 030 and 0.35) were synthesized by melt quenching procedure. After confirming non-crystallinity, density was measured and found it to be decreased with increase of CoO concentration in the range 4.0370 gm/cm3 - 3.5673 gm/cm3. Molar volume, mean distance between TMIs, small polaron radius, oxygen packing density and field strength were estimated. Conductivity was measured in the temperature range 303K -663K. High temperature conductivity is found to be varied as per Mott’s (SPH) model. High temperature activation energy is found to be increased with CoO content. Low temperature conductivity variation has been analyzed using Mott’s (VRH) model. Gamma ray shielding parameters were evaluated using Phy-X/PSD software for the energy range 0.005 MeV-15 MeV. The mass and linear attenuation coefficients were found to decrease with CoO content and photon energy. Half and tenth value layers increased with increase of mole fractions of CoO. All the observed shielding parameters are superior to those reported previously for other glasses. The glass with x=0.10 is best suited for the utility of gamma shielding at low energy.

Glasses with nominal composition 70Bi2O3-30Fe2O3 and 10A-60Bi2O3-30Fe2O3 (mol%); (A=Ba, Sr and Ca) were prepared by the conventional melt quenching technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) confirm the amorphous nature of the glass samples. The iron-bismuth glasses show good solubility of alkaline earth elements ions. In temperatures range of 310 -450 K, the dc conductivity of the glass samples containing alkaline earth elements enhanced. Glass sample containing Sr shows interesting electrical properties. All glass samples showed a transition from negative to positive Seebeck coefficient, this means that the conduction is mixed of electrons and holes charge carriers. The conduction mechanism of all samples obeys non-adiabatic small polaron hopping model of electron between iron ions. The calculated small polaron coupling constant, (γp) was found to be in the range of 10.25-17.28. Also, the calculated hopping mobility (μ) and carrier density (Nc) of glasses were in the range of 4.65× 10 − 7 -4.11× 10 −3 (cm 2 V −1 s −1 ) and 0.029-10 (× 10 1 7 cm −3 ) at 333 K, respectively.
