Effects of Gui Zhi Ma Huang Ge Ban Tang on the TLR7 Pathway in Influenza Virus Infected Mouse Lungs in a Cold Environment

Abstract: Objective We wished to investigate the effects of the traditional Chinese medicine Gui Zhi Ma Huang Ge Ban Tang on controlling influenza A virus (IAV) infection and improving inflammation in mouse lungs. Method Mice were maintained in normal and cold environments and infected with IAV by intranasal application, respectively. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction was used to measure mRNA expression of TLR7, myeloid differentiation primary response 88 (MyD88), and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)p65 in … Show more

“…Over the past decades, however, few herbs have been confirmed to have an antimicrobial activity strong enough to inhibit pathogens in vivo or in vitro at the applied concentrations in decoctions, and few compounds have been isolated and confirmed to have a strong antimicrobial activity suitable for clinical applications [63] . In fact, many TCM formulas that are effective in treating infectious diseases do not contain the herbs with strong antimicrobial property, instead with anti-inflammation and immunoregulation activities [ 64 , 65 ]. While antimicrobial activity shouldn't be excluded, it probably plays a minor or indirect role.…”

“…We previously reported the therapeutic effects of some traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions in mice infected with influenza virus in different environments [5,6]. Compounds used in traditional Chinese medicine contain several different drugs, and the precise components that have anti-influenza action remain unidentified.…”
