Effects of gravitational acceleration on cardiovascular autonomic control in resting humans

Abstract: These results do not agree with the notion of sympathetic up-regulation supported by the increase in HR and DAP (tonic indices), and of SAP and DAP LF powers (oscillatory indices). The P TOT reduction leads to speculate that only the sympathetic branch of the ANS might have been active during elevated a g exposure. The vascular response occurred in a condition of massive baroreceptive unloading.

“…High g-load could initiate early syncopal symptoms, while low g-load could be insufficient to induce strenuous perturbation to hemodynamic homeostasis, and therefore, fails to evoke desired autonomic control of blood pressure. The autonomic control of blood pressure via the conventional approach of arterial baroreflex sensitivity and heart rate variability have been shown to exhibit microgravity or hypergravity induced alteration in the autonomic performance ( Yanagida et al, 2014 ; Fontolliet et al, 2015 ). In this research, we investigated the capability of 1-g and 2-g centrifugation toward evoking autonomic controls of blood pressure.…”

“…For each subject, the mean slope of the RR versus SAP relationships was then computed and taken as a measure of individual BRS, at rest and at exercise, respectively. Spectral analysis and BRS were analysed by means of a purposely laboratory-made program written with MATLAB â software (Version 7Á9Á1 R2009b) (Costes et al, 2004;Assoumou et al, 2012;Dauphinot et al, 2013;Fontolliet et al, 2015).…”
