ABSTRAKEucalyptus pellita F. Muell adalah salah satu jenis tanaman potensial sebagai bahan pulp di Indonesia. Aktivitas pemuliaan telah dilakukan untuk mendapatkan tanaman ekaliptus yang memiliki produktivitas tinggi melalui seleksi individu-individu bergenetik unggul. Teknik perbanyakan menjadi hal penting dalam upaya pengembangbiakan sifat unggul tesebut. Veneer grafting adalah salah satu teknik perbanyakan yang direkomendasikan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui kompatibilitas sambungan beberapa klon dari pohon plus Eucalyptus pellita. Penelitian ini menggunakan design Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 36 families Eucalyptus pellita and 6 famili hibrid (E. pellita x E. brassiana) sebagai perlakuan, dan 4 ulangan. Hasil pengamatan menunjukan bahwa klon E. pellita berpengaruh nyata terhadap persen hidup, jumlah tunas, pertumbuhan panjang tunas dan diameter tunas dari klon yang diamati. Persentase hidup klon berkisar antara 0 -100%. Jumlah tunas berkisar 1-3 batang. Rata-rata panjang tunas berkisar 0,17 cm -17,82 cm. Diamater tunas berkisar 0,10 mm -2,27 mm. Klon no. 19 dari Keru To Nata WP, Papua New Guinea mempu mencapai persen hidup 100 % hingga akhir pengamatan. Klon no. 33 memiliki pertumbuhan terbaik untuk jumlah tinas, diameter tunas dan dan panjang tunas. Kata kunci : Eucaltyptus pellita, pertumbuhan, teknik grafting veneer ABSTRACTEucalyptus pellita F. Muell is one of the promising species for pulp production in Indonesia. Tree breeding activities of this species have been developed to investigate a high productivity of Eucalypt through the selection of genetically improved individual trees. Vegetative propagation technique is an important tool needed to multiple the trees. Veneer Grafting is one of the recommended propagation techniques. The objective of the research is to study the compatibility of several E. Pellita clones that are produced from plus trees. Implemented by Completely Randomized Design (CRD), the research was used 36 E. pellita families and 6 hibryds of E. pellita x E. brassiana as the treatment with 4 replications. Compatibilidad anatómica de Jatropha curcas (L.) injertada en portainjerto de Jatropha cinerea (Ortega) Muell.Arg Anatomical compatibility of Jatropha curcas (L.) graft on Jatropha cinerea (Ortega) Muell.Arg rootstock ResumenSe evaluó la compatibilidad de injertos de Jatropha curcas sobre portainjertos de Jatropha cinerea comprobando la compatibilidad de los injertos entre ambas especies con un 95% de supervivencia del total de plantas injertadas y observando la compatibilidad de los tejidos vasculares, su regeneración y desarrollo mediante pruebas histológicas. A nivel anatómico, ambas especies tuvieron los mismos tipos celulares (parénquima en la corteza externa los tipos celulares específicos que forman los tejidos en el floema, cambium vascular y xilema) completamente diferenciados al momento de ser injertadas. Al comparar los diferentes tejidos, las células de parénquima de J. curcas tuvieron menor cantidad de granos de almidón que las de J.cinerea. Otra diferencia anatómica fue la amplitud del cambium vascular en la que J. cinerea presentó mayor área que J. curcas. Los resultados en los cortes histológicos realizados a los tallos injertados mostraron la integración del tejido de J. curcas con el portainjertos de J. cinerea al desarrollarse como una sola planta.Palabras clave: Injerto, Portainjertos, Jatropha curcas, Jatropha cinérea Recepción: 13-07-2016 Aceptación: 24-08-2016 Abstract Graft compatibility of Jatropha curcas on Jatropha cinerea was confirmed by obtaining a high survival (95%) of the total grafted plants. Their regeneration and development was accomplished by histological assays observing compatibility of the vessel tissues. At anatomical level, both species had the same cell types (parenchyma in the external cortex, specific cells forming phloem tissues, vascular and xylem cambium) completely differentiated at the moment of grafting. When comparing different tissues, the parenchyma cells of J. curcas had fewer amounts of starch grains than those of J. cinerea. Another anatomical difference was vascular cambium amplitude, which was greater in J. cinerea than in J. curcas. The results of the histological cuts in the grafted stems showed integration of J. curcas tissue with J. cinerea stock when they developed as one plant only.

Is there life after hype for Jatropha? Exploring growth and yield in Indonesia

at 11 a.m. in the Aula. AbstractJatropha curcas L. is a biofuel crop that has not lived up to expectations due to a combination of hype and disappointment and biophysical factors. This PhD thesis is based on the plant production component of the JARAK programme which aimed to bridge the gap between truth and fiction. This study reviewed the jatropha hype and disappointment and further investigated the hypothesis that jatropha growth and yield are limited by biophysical factors of plant characteristics, cropping systems, and management. My review of the hype and disappointment shows that despite the high expectations fuelled by market pull and technology push, and numerous actors, the commercial potential for jatropha is limited by policy and governance, economics, social, technology, logistical, and environmental. A study of the biophysical components confirms that no current varieties suited to different cropping systems and locations are available. Jatropha aboveground biomass is partitioned predominantly into a structure of stem, branches, and twigs. The below to aboveground biomass ratio was 0.5 and fruit which was found only on productive twigs accounted for the smallest portion of biomass measured. Seed yields were disappointingly small (109 kg ha -1 ) and were largest in monoculture, followed by intercropping and hedgerows in that order, although yields were influenced by age and management of pruning and fertiliser. Seed yield across the three cropping systems can be predicted using plant height and the number of productive twig/branch, although the number of inflorescence clusters per productive twig may be important. Intercropping between jatropha and maize (Zea mays L.) resulted in competition for resources both belowground and aboveground that reduced maize yields. Shoot pruning was effective in managing aboveground competition, while root pruning and root barriers effectively managed competition belowground. Leaf prunings provided a limited, but positive fertility effect on maize yield comparable to 21 kg N ha -1. Jatropha -maize intercropping has potential for long-term productivity provided management practices such as fertiliser, pruning, and planting density can be developed to minimise competition and enhance complementarity. Based on my review of the jatropha hype and disappointment and my biophysical research results, the planting of jatropha by smallholders, or as a plantation crop cannot be recommended. Once the issues I highlight have been resolved and market confidence restored, jatropha may finally become a commercial source of biodiesel able to provide improved socio-economic and environmental benefits.
