Background: Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus plays a significant role in the development of diabetic nephropathy. Aim: This study was performed to assess the pathological effect of diabetes on the kidney, the possible improvement of diabetic nephropathy by Insulin, and the therapeutic effect of mesenchymal stem cells. Methods: 50 healthy albino adult male rats were subdivided into two main groups, Group 1: control group (8 rats). Group 2: 42 rats were given a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (80 mg/kg). After 6 weeks, confirming diabetic nephropathy, rats were dispersed into 3 groups as follows; Group (2a): diabetic nephropathic untreated rats, Group (2b) was given insulin glargine 6 IU/24 hours, for 6 weeks and Group (2c) was received MSCs in intravenous injection (10 6 cells) per rat once. After sacrificing rats at the end of the experiment, blood sampling was done for laboratory analysis of serum urea, and creatinine. Kidney samples were prepared for light and electron microscopic examination. Results: Diabetic rats showed altered biochemical and histological changes which are dilated filtration space, focal lytic (degenerated) areas, and congested blood capillaries were observed in the diabetic group. Disfigurement of the renal tubules, with vacuolated cytoplasm in the insulin group while, normal appearance with mild increase in the Bowman's space in the MSCs group, with significant ameliorative effects on renal function. Conclusion: Treatment with insulin and MSCs showed improved histological and biochemical parameters in the kidneys of diabetic rats.

Background: The art or practice of herbal remedies refers to the use of herbs and herbal treatments for the purpose of maintaining health and preventing, treating, or curing sickness. In some areas, herbal treatments can also be referred to as herbal medicine. Aim: The present study was designed to investigate the antihyperlipidemic and antiatherogenic potentiality of ethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera extract in high fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic rats. Materials and Methods: Moringa oleifera ethanolic extract was prepared using Soxhlet apparatus. Male rats were made hyperlipidemic by giving high fat diet. M. oleifera was administered in a dose of 250, 500 and 750 mg/kg.b.w./day for 30 days in high fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic rats. The SGPT, SGOT, total cholesterol,triglyceride, LDL,HDL , Urea and creatinine levels were measured after the treatment. Results: For both the SGPT and the SGOT, it was seen that groups 5 and 6 exhibited statistically significant (p< 0.05) outcomes in the case of the SGPT. When conducting the renal function test, it was observed that the levels of creatinine and urea were statistically significant (p< 0.05) in the cases of groups 4, 5, and 6. In the case of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), groups 4, 5, and 6 showed statistically significant findings (p< 0.05) in HDL levels, while groups 5 and 6 showed statistically significant LDL levels. The triglyceride levels in the group were found to be statistically significant (p< 0.05), while the findings obtained from groups 5 and 6 were also found to be statistically significant. Conclusion: The study revealed that M. oleifera has anti hyperlipidemic activity.

Aim: The use of Moringa oleifera leaves has gained worldwide acceptance in use by animals and humans. The study aimed to determine the effects of ethanolic leaf extract of young and old Moringa oleifera on haematological, renal, and liver indices in Wistar rats. Design: A completely randomized design was used for the study. Place and duration of study: The study was carried out in the Animal Science Department of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development and lasted for six weeks. Materials and methods: A total of twenty male Wistar rats of age eight weeks old were used for the study. The Wistar rats were kept in aluminum cages under a 12-hours light and 12-hours dark cycle. The rats were divided into four treatments; Treatment (T1) received 1 mL/bw/day of normal saline, Treatments 2, 3, and 4 received 100 mg/kg/bw of iron (III) hydroxide polymaltose, 100 mg/kg/bw of young Moringa oleifera extract (YMoE) and 100mg/kg/bw of old Moringa oleifera extract (OMoE) as treatments respectively for six weeks. Phytochemical screening of young and old Moringa oleifera was done separately using standard extraction procedures. Results: Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of triterpenoid, glycosides, flavonoid, and saponins in both young and old Moringa oleifera leaves, however, alkaloids and tannins were found only in young leaves of Moringa oleifera. Both extract (YMoE and OMoE) significantly (P<0.05) influenced rat’s feed intake and body weight. An insignificant (P>0.05) effect of the treatment on haematological parameters was observed. However, there was a significant (P<0.05) effect of YMoE and OMoE treatments on haemoglobin which mirrored the effect of iron (III) hydroxide polymaltose. The study found no significant effect (P>0.05) of YMoE and OMoE treatments on liver enzymes, and Blood urea nitrogen. Creatines levels showed elevation in the group that received iron (III) hydroxide polymaltose, while those administered with Moringa extract had similar effect to the normal saline treatment. Histopathological examinations showed normal kidney and liver architecture in normal saline and Moringa oleifera treatments. Mild renal epithelium degeneration was observed in the iron (III) hydroxide poly-maltose treatment. Conclusion: The findings from this study suggest that both young and old Moringa oleifera leaves may effectively manage anaemia without causing kidney or liver damage.
