Effects of Different Practice Task Constraints on Fluctuations of Player Heart Rate in Small-Sided Football Games

Abstract: This paper analyzes effects of different practice task constraints on heart rate (HR) variability during 4v4 smallsided football games. Participants were sixteen football players divided into two age groups (U13, Mean age: 12.4±0.5 yrs; U15: 14.6±0.5). The task consisted of a 4v4 sub-phase without goalkeepers, on a 25x15 m field, of 15 minutes duration with an active recovery period of 6 minutes between each condition. We recorded players' heart rates using heart rate monitors (Polar Team System, Polar Electro… Show more

“…Data on players' HR was collected during all SSGs. The individual minimum HR was noted by the participants (each morning in bed for five consecutive days), and this data, together with the maximum HR obtained at the end of the 30-15 Intermittent Fitness Test, was used in the Karvonen formula (HR(%)=[100*(HR-HRmin)]/[HRmax-HRmin]) to calculate the HR reserve (Duarte, et al, 2010). The reference scale was as follows: <50%, 50-70%, 70-90% and >90% of the relative HR reserve.…”

“…The wag for defeating the opponent is strong and precise attacking with shots and throws from a distance forced by the rules. In additionusing a real size goals gives some stimulation and motivation to the players and these rules let reduce the random effects (Duarte et al, 2010).…”

“…Other task conditions have also been studied such as the limitations of individual contacts on ball location (Dellal, Lago-Penas, Wong, & Chamari, 2011), goals (Duarte, et al, 2010), the non-use of goalkeepers (Mallo & Navarro, 2008) and the use of neutral players (Evangelos et al, 2012). From those task conditions, it was found that the limitations of touches per player, the non-use of goalkeepers or the non-use of goals increased the heart rate responses of soccer players.…”
