Effects of dietary protease on immune responses of weaned pigs

Abstract: This experiment was conducted to investigate effects of dietary protease on immune responses of weaned pigs. Weaned pigs (n = 75; 7.06 ± 0.18 kg BW; 28 d old) were randomly assigned to 3 treatments (5 pigs/pen; 5 pens/treatment). Dietary treatments were positive control, a diet with required protein level (PC), negative control, a diet with lower protein level than PC (NC), and NC + 0.02% dietary protease (PRO). The dietary protease used in this experiment was a commercial product containing 75,000 protease un… Show more

“…[ 43 , 49 , 50 ]. The CRP is the first acute-phase protein that can be used as an inflammatory response indicator and pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and TGF-β1 are important inducers of CRP synthesis [ 51 ]. In present study, the CRP of weaned pigs was no significant difference among dietary treatments, but the concentration of CRP was decreased during the experimental period.…”

“…In the present study, dietary YCW did not affect ADG, ADFI, and G:F of weaned pigs for the first 2 weeks after weaning. In addition, the diarrhea frequency was increased in the CON group for 2 weeks after weaning, which may be related to weaning events [ 2 , 3 , 22 ]. However, dietary YCW tended to increase ADG in weaned pigs when considered over the entire experimental period, suggesting that YCW supplementation may improve growth performance.…”

“…Therefore, appropriate nutrient supply for weaned pigs is one of essential factors to improve the intestinal health. Several studies reported that some feed additives, such as plant extracts, exogenous enzymes, and GLU, had beneficial effects on growth performance and gut barrier functions of pigs [ 8 , 14 , 15 , 28 ]. In particular, GLU is regarded as one of the most promising performance-enhancing additives with amino acid synthesis properties [ 8 ].…”

“…The blood samples in the tubes without EDTA were kept at room temperature and centrifuged at 3000× g for 15 min at 4 °C to obtain the serum. Serum samples were stored at −20 °C until analysis of immune responses [ 15 ]. On the last week of the experiment, chromic oxide (Cr 2 O 3 ; Daejung Chemicals & Materials Co. Ltd., Siheung, Gyeonggi, Korea), as an indigestible maker, was mixed with 2 g per kg of diets.…”
