Effects of Dietary Nonfibrous Carbohydrate/Neutral Detergent Fiber Ratio on Methanogenic Archaea and Cellulose-Degrading Bacteria in the Rumen of Karakul Sheep: a 16S rRNA Gene Sequencing Study

Abstract: CH 4 produced by ruminants aggravates the greenhouse effect and cause wastage of feed energy, and CH 4 emissions are related to methanogens. According to the current literature, there is a symbiotic relationship between methanogens and cellulolytic bacteria, so reducing methane will inevitably affect the degradation of fiber materials.

“…These enzymes, often referred to as cellulase complexes and hemi-cellulase complexes, are composed of a number of different enzymes, including β-glucosidase, xylanase, galacturonase, etc. [75]. These enzymes are able to break the chemical bonds between cellulose and hemicellulose, breaking it down into smaller soluble carbohydrates [76].…”
