“…The toxic effect of ammonia is immediate, linear and dose‐dependent (Lin & Chen 2001; Lemarié et al 2004; Park et al 2007; Hegazi et al 2010). In fish such as tilapia, besides affecting the immune response, the exposure to ammonia results in reduced growth, liver tissue degeneration, gill hyperplasia, hyperexcitability and ultimately fish mortality (Yilmaz 2019).
