Effects of Boron on Structure and Antioxidative Activities of Spleen in Rats

Abstract: In order to determine the relationship between boron and development of the spleen, especially in the promoting biological effects, we examined the effects of different levels of boron on weight, organ index, microstructure, and antioxidative activities of the spleen in rats. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were selected and treated with different concentrations of boron, and then, the organs were resected and weighed. One half of the tissue was fixed and embedded in paraffin to observe tissue structure changes. The … Show more

“…While dietary low-dose boron intake has improved organ indexes and tissue structure in rats, elevated levels of boron treatment (640 mg boric acid/L) has resulted in low organ weight and abnormal tissue structure [31]. Similarly, the results of the current study revealed that both low-and high-dose boron treatments increased myogenic lineage-specific gene expression in early stage of differentiation; high-dose boron treatment significantly decreased the myogenic differentiation potential of hADSCs.…”

“…In a study carried out with rats boron increased weight and relative weight of the spleen [10] . The difference was considered to be associated with the difference in species.…”

“…It was shown that boron did not exhibit toxic effects on the reproduction system of rats and was found to be effective on skeletal system at high doses [9] . In another study, boron was found to decrease spleen weight and besides, it caused arthritis in rats [10] . Bai and Hunt [11] , reported that boron increased the level of antibodies.…”
