Currently, the environmental pollution is occurring on a vast and unprecedented scale around the globe. Pesticides are the largest group of chemicals that are used widely in modern agricultural practices. Pesticides have been associated with health and environmental issues, and the agricultural use of certain pesticides has been abandoned. Pesticides are basically poisons and therefore toxic to living organism at particular dose. Medicinal plants have a promising future because there are about half million plants around the world, and most of them their medical activities have not investigate yet, and their medical activities could be decisive in the treatment of present or future studies. Natural products from plants, animals and minerals are the basis for treating human diseases. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of sesame oil and canola oil on male rats exposed to malathion. Experimental rats were divided into six groups. Group 1 was served as normal control. Rats of group 2 were exposed to malathion. Rats of group 3 were treated with sesame oil and malathion. Rats of group 4 were subjected to canola oil and malathion. Rats of group 5 and 6 were supplemented with sesame oil and canola oil respectively. After the end of experimental duration (8 weeks), rats of group 2 showed significant reduction of body weight gain, and severe hematological and biochemical alterations including significant decreases of RBC, HB, Hct, WBC, total protein, glucose and CAT, and increases of ALT, AST, ALP, total bilirubin, triglycerides, cholesterol, creatinine, uric acid and MDA values. Administration of sesame oil and canola oil improved the observed hematological and biochemical alterations induced by malathion intoxication. These new findings indicate that sesame oil and canola oil represent protective roles on hematological and biochemical disturbances induced by malathion toxicity due to their antioxidant activities.

The present study provides plant-derived extracts to characterize the activity and kinetics of protease enzymes of Mentha piperita L and Thymus capitatus L. The results illustrated that these crude extracts have a proteolytic activity within optimum pH (3-9) and optimum temperature (35-50°C). The study of the ionizable groups in or around the active site of these proteases by Dixon-Webb's plot reveals the occurrences or the presence of aspartic acid with pKa 1 at pH 2.9 and pKa 2 at pH 3.2, and cysteine amino acids in or around the active site with pKa 1 at pH 6.7 and pKa 2 at pH 7.2; interestingly, these proteases maybe belonged to the acid proteases and neutral proteases. Enzymatic kinetics studies (k m , V max, V max /k m) indicated that egg albumin is a good substrate for proteases of M. piperita L. and T. capitatus L.

Kidney injury represents a global concern, leading to chronic kidney disease. The organophosphate insecticide malathion (MT) demonstrates environmental disturbance and impairment of different mammalian organs, including kidneys. Likewise, gamma-irradiation (IRR) provokes destructive effects in the kidneys. Rutin is a flavonoid glycoside that exhibits nephro-protective and radio-protective properties. This manuscript focused on investigating the protective response of rutin on MT- and IRR-triggered kidney injury in rats. Rats were randomly divided into eight groups of twelve: G1 (C), control; G2 (Rutin), rutin-treated rats; G3 (IRR), gamma-irradiated rats; G4 (MT), malathion-treated rats; G5 (IRR/MT), gamma-irradiated rats treated with malathion; G6 (IRR/Rutin), gamma-irradiated rats treated with rutin; G7 (MT/Rutin), rats treated with malathion and rutin; and G8 (IRR/MT/Rutin), gamma-irradiated rats treated with malathion and rutin, every day for 30 days. The results demonstrated that rutin treatment regulated the biochemical parameters, the oxidative stress, the antioxidant status, and the inflammatory responses due to the down-regulation of the renal NF-κB p65 protein expression. Moreover, it amended the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AchE), angiotensin ACE I, and ACE II-converting enzymes. Besides, it regulated the iNOS, eNOS, miR-129-3p, miR-200c, and miR-210 gene expressions and bradykinin receptor (B1R and B2R) protein expressions. Histopathological examinations of the kidney tissue confirmed these investigated results. It could be concluded that rutin demonstrated nephro/radioprotection and counteracted the toxicological effects triggered in the kidney tissues of IRR, MT, and IRR/MT intoxicated rats, via regulating miR-129-3p, miR-200c-3p, and miR-210-3p gene expressions, which consequently regulated B2R protein expressions, ACE II activity, and HIF-1α production, respectively.
