Effects of annealing treatment on mechanical properties of 8011 aluminum alloy after cryogenic rolling

Abstract: In order to improve mechanical properties of roll cast 8011 aluminum alloy (AA 8011) by grain strengthening, and expand its application field, the effect of different annealing treating processes on mechanical properties and microstructures of cryogenic rolled AA 8011 was investigated. The roll cast AA 8011 was cryogenic rolled for six passes and then annealed. The annealing treatment was adopted at 100–300 °C for 1 h, and then the annealing treatment was adopted at 220 °C for 10–80 min. The microstructures of… Show more

“…Yogesha [ 59 ] found that the cryo‐groove rolling followed by warm rolling could notably improve the high‐cycle fatigue strength of AA5052. Cui et al [ 80 ] proposed that a combination of multipass CR with certain annealing treatment would achieve the optimum mechanical properties of AA8011. Yu et al [ 31,81 ] reported the advantage of using a combined process of ARB and CR to improve both the strength and ductility of an Al laminated foil.…”

“…Aluminum alloys are widely used in many industries due to their high strength to weight ratio, good ductility, and corrosion resistance (Vasudevan and Doherty, 2012). Typically, AA8011 alloys are utilized in air-conditioning ducts and heat exchanger fins in ships, leisure boats, luxury vessels, workboats, fishing vessels, and patrol boats (Magibalan et al, 2018;Mishra, 2020;Cui et al, 2019;Mandal, 2017). However, welding of aluminum alloys using the conventional welding process is a serious limitation.…”

“…Deep cryogenic treatment (DCT), as one of the effective methods to improve materials' properties, has been shown a considerable application prospect in the fields of aerospace, cutting tool and manufacturing industries [1,2]. In academia, DCT has been applied to tool steels [3][4][5], cemented carbides [6,7], Ti-based alloys [8][9][10], Mg-based alloys [11,12], Al-based alloys [13][14][15] and composites [16][17][18], to study the effect on the microstructure evolution and properties transform. To our knowledge, by DCT, the service performance of the coating/film can be also abstractly improved, to a certain extent.…”
