“…Positive effect of amantadine in promoting clinical recovery in patients with disorder of consciousness (DOC) has been extensively evaluated in patients with prolonged posttraumatic vegetative state or minimally conscious state (MCS) [1][2][3][4][5], whereas few studies investigated amantadine effect in non-traumatic DOC [6,7], and only one reported on a chronic post-anoxic MCS patient [8].…”

“…The CNCS has previously been used in children with DOC after brain injury. 13,14 First CNCS score (typically obtained within the first few days of the admission) was used for the purpose of this study. The CNCS was not administered to 1 patient in this cohort; data are thus available for 13 patients.…”

“…In a prospective, multicenter, placebo‐controlled study, amantadine was noted to speed the pace of functional recovery in adults with disordered consciousness after TBI [20]. In smaller studies, amantadine has been associated with increased wakefulness and improved neurobehavioral symptoms in children with head injuries [21‐23].…”
