Effectiveness of The Triple P Positive Parenting Program on Behavioral Problems in Children

Abstract: The Triple P Positive Parenting Program is a multilevel parenting program to prevent and offer treatment for severe behavioral, emotional, and developmental problems in children. “…This observed increase in parental self-efficacy is encouraging and consistent with the theoretical basis of Triple P which argues for the central importance of improving parental self efficacy so that parents can parent more consistently and positively. The finding is also consistent with de Graaf et al's [11] meta-analysis that showed consistent changes in parents' sense of competence after participating in Triple P.…”

“…Four different meta-analyses have confirmed that children and parents demonstrate significant improvements in child behavior and parenting practices after participating in the intervention [10][11][12][13]. “…Triple P has conducted extensive outcomes evaluations on the different levels of care and in multiple settings and populations, including 43 randomized controlled trials, 76 evaluation studies in total, and a recent meta-analysis (e.g., Bor et al 2002;de Graaf et al 2008;Morawska and Sanders 2006;Plant and Sanders 2007;Sanders 1999;Sanders et al 2007Sanders et al , 2004Sanders et al , 2002Sanders and McFarland 2000;Turner and Sanders 2006). These studies have shown lower levels of child behavior problems, lower dysfunctional parenting styles and a higher sense of competence in the groups receiving Triple P. A large scale trial, funded by the CDC, has been conducted in South Carolina.…”
