Effectiveness of Marine Fungal Symbiont Isolated from Soft Coral Sinularia sp. from Panjang Island as Antifungal

Abstract: Soft corals are invertebrates living on coral reefs that produce bioactive compound that can be used such as an antibacterial, antifungal, anti-tumor,and anti inflamantory that are beneficial for the pharmaceutical industry. Several studies have shown that fungi are very rich of natural chemical compounds that are potential as a source of new drugs, but there is few research in marine fungal symbionts. In this research we collecteda soft coralSinularia sp. as source of marine fungal symbionts from Panjang isla… Show more

“…More than 70% of the earth’s surface occupying by the oceans that support large habitats of living organisms which are considered as a source of a vast groups of structurally unique natural products. These natural products are mainly isolated from invertebrates common to ecosystems of coral reefs, such as tunicates, sponges, soft corals, molluscs and bryozoans (Putri et al 2015 ).…”

“…It can be concluded that the terpenoid likely contributes as an antibacterial agent. Some of the terpenoid compounds have been reported to function as antimicrobials 23 . Terpenoid is rarely isolated from bacteria, but the extensive result of bacterial genomic analysis identifies many genes of terpene synthases involved in terpenoid biosynthesis 24 .…”
