Effectiveness of Lactobacillus sp (AMET1506) as Probiotic against Vibriosis in Penaeus monodon and Litopenaeus vannamei Shrimp Aquaculture

Abstract: Vibriosis is the one of the major pathogenic bacterial disease in shrimp aquaculture. Improving the health status of culture organisms using beneficial microbes as probiotic is the better method to control the pathogens. In this present study the Lactobacillus sp AMET1506 (Which shows strongest antagonistic activity against pathogenic bacteria such as, E.coli, V. cholerae, V.parahaemolyticus, Salmonella sp. and Shigella sp) was previously isolated from curd sample. While checking the antibacterial activity of … Show more

“…In normal, diseases in aquaculture practices are mostly caused by luminous bacteria Vibrio harveyi and it has been referred to as the largest economic loss in the shrimp aquaculture due to mass mortalities (Sivakumar et al, 2014;Karthik et al, 2014). Furthermore, in general pathogenic microbes always remain in the water as opportunistic pathogens and they attack the larvae only when the larvae are weak due to environmental stress or nutritional deficiency (Soundarapandian and Babu, 2010).…”

“…During the last few years white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) disease has spread worldwide and caused tremendous economic loss in shrimp culture particularly in Asia [4]. Due to the continuous outbreak of this WSSV disease in Penaeus monodon culture leading to loss of shrimp culture in India, the farmers are seriously looking for alternative shrimp species for culture [5]. Cyanobacterial growths in ponds leads to the algal degradation due to the poor water quality.…”
