This systematic review integrates the data available in the literature regarding the biological activities of the extracts of endophytic fungi isolated from Annona muricata and their secondary metabolites. The search was performed using four electronic databases, and studies' quality was evaluated using an adapted assessment tool. The initial database search yielded 436 results; ten studies were selected for inclusion. The leaf was the most studied part of the plant (in nine studies); Periconia sp. was the most tested fungus (n = 4); the most evaluated biological activity was anticancer (n = 6), followed by antiviral (n = 3). Antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant activities were also tested. Terpenoids or terpenoid hybrid compounds were the most abundant chemical metabolites. Phenolic compounds, esters, alkaloids, saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, aromatic compounds, and peptides were also reported. The selected studies highlighted the biotechnological potentiality of the endophytic fungi extracts from A. muricata. Consequently, it can be considered a promising source of biological compounds with antioxidant effects and active against different microorganisms and cancer cells. Further research is needed involving different plant tissues, other microorganisms, such as SARS-CoV-2, and different cancer cells.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat tingkat toksisitas subkronis ekstrak etil asetat kapang endofit daun sirsak pada tikus Sprague Dawley terhadap glukosa darah, kolesterol, dan trigliserida selama 90 hari. Pemberian ekstrak etil asetat sebanyak 1 mL secara oral pada tikus betina perlakuan. Kelompok kontrol normal tidak diberi ekstrak etil asetat kapang endofit daun sirsak. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan tikus betina sebanyak 40 ekor termasuk kontrol normal. Ekstrak diberikan dengan dosis 20 mg/kg berat badan, 80 mg/kg berat badan, dan 240 mg/kg berat badan. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa konsentrasi glukosa darah tikus betina secara berturut-turut adalah 119,68-152,53 mg/dL, 66,20-89,66 mg/dL, dan 118,95-149,32 mg/dL pada hari ke-30, ke 60 dan ke 90. Konsentrasi kholesterol darah tikus betina secara berturut-turut adalah 52,6-120,0 mg/dL, 94,40-119,0 mg/dL, dan 53,83-79,25 mg/dL pada hari ke-30, ke 60 dan ke 90. Konsentrasi trigliserida darah tikus betina secara berturut-turut adalah 108,50-171,40 mg/dL, 112,20-118,10 mg/dL, dan 96,33-120,70 mg/Dl pada hari ke-30, 60 dan ke 90. Pemberian ekstrak etil asetat selama 90 hari dengan dosis sampai 240 mg/kg BB tidak menyebabkan kelainan nilai gula darah, kolesterol, dan trigliserida tikus Sprague Dawley. Semua parameter pada hari ke-90 tidak menunjukkan perbedaan secara statistika dibandingkan dengan kelompok normal. Ekstrak etil asetat kapang endofit daun sirsak pada penelitian ini tidak menimbulkan efek toksik terhadap konsentrasi glukosa, kolesterol, dan trigliserida selama uji subkronik hari ke-90.

Rodents cause significant damage to many crops, spread diseases, and pose a severe risk to public health. Several synthetic contraceptive agents are available for controlling rodents; however, their use is associated with toxic effects on non-target organisms. Penicillium oxalicum has several medical properties, but no reports were available on fertility. This study aimed to assess the antifertility potential of n-butanol and ethyl acetate extracts of P. oxalicum in adult male albino rats as biological control agents by lowering the population size of rodent pests. Rats were assigned into three groups (n = 36). The first control group (GI) was injected intraperitoneally with 0.5% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The second (GII) and third (GIII) groups were injected with a single dose of 200 mg/kg body weight (b.wt.) of n-butanol and ethyl acetate extracts of P. oxalicum intraperitoneally, respectively, after dissolving in 0.5% DMSO. Further, P. oxalicum was identified morphologically and molecularly and then submitted with accession number OM282858 to the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) GenBank. The antifertility potential of P. oxalicum was evaluated after 24 h (the injection period), 96 h, and 168 h (the recovery periods) of treatments. The effects of the treatments on organ weight, testicular histology, histomorphometry measurements, and sperm characteristics were assessed. Both P. oxalicum extracts caused changes in reproductive organ weights, testicular histology, histomorphometry measurements, and spermatogenic arrest accompanied by a significant decrease in the count of epididymal sperm and its motility and an increase in the percentage of sperm abnormalities during the injection and recovery periods. Thus, the results suggest that both P. oxalicum extract treatments cause suppression of fertility in adult male rats. Therefore, these outcomes are essential for public health, farming establishments, and vertebrate pest control managers.
