The transition from secondary to higher education in mathematics raises several challenges for students of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) studies. These include amongst others different emphases and requirements and the prohibition of computer algebra systems in basic math education at universities, which leads to a high dropout rate in the first year of study. To address these challenges, a so-called three-level system was introduced at TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology) in first-year mathematics courses to support and encourage students with different levels of high school knowledge. This approach entails several requirements such as a higher correction effort which is countered by the use of an e-learning system called Möbius. It not only provides automatic grading of exercises but also individual and immediate feedback for the students. The analysis of the grade distribution of two years indicates a positive influence of the introduced three-level system on first-year STEM students.

The Role of Moodle in Education: A Bibliometric Review

Moodle is a trendy digital learning platform in education widely used to create online courses. Moodle's role in education is crucial because it provides many benefits, including facilitating distance learning, increasing student participation, increasing teaching efficiency, enabling easy assessment, enabling personalized teaching, and so on. There have been many studies on Moodle in the form of articles from year to year. Therefore, in this research, a bibliometric study will be carried out on the roles of Moodle in the world of education, mapping research results, looking at research trends, and looking for possible gaps that can still be studied more deeply. The method used in this research is a Systematic Literature Review using bibliometric analysis with the help of VoS Viewer. The study results show that Moodle is widely used to benefit learning in various fields, especially STEM. Moodle is generally used to digitize learning, including, in this case, the assessment and gamification process in learning.

Abstract—Integral Calculus II is a second-year undergraduate course offered by the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics at Maseno University. It is one of the 20 foundational courses with a high enrolment of about 800 students drawn from the school of Mathematics, Education, Science, and Business. Because of the large number of enrollments in these foundational courses, and the small number of teaching staff, instructors face challenges in providing immediate personalized feedback that can guide learning. Systems for Teaching and Assessment which use Computer Algebra Kernerl, STACK, a computer-aided assessment plug-in that provides a sophisticated assessment in mathematics-related disciplines, was used to deploy Continuous Assessment Tests (CAT) in the course for 370 students. This paper reports on the findings of the course based on a comparison between student test scores in STACK and in the final course exam.
