Effective Fabrication of Catalysts from Large-Pore, Multidimensional Zeolites Synthesized without Using Organic Structure-Directing Agents

Abstract: An Al-rich zeolite beta with *BEA topology and a Si/Al ratio as low as 6–7 was synthesized without the use of an organic structure-directing agent (OSDA) and subsequently treated by steam followed by heating with nitric acid for the purposes of dealumination, so as to prepare a catalyst. The steaming process played an important role in stabilizing the *BEA framework, presumably by repairing site defects with migrating silicon species. Steaming at around 700 °C was observed to produce optimal stabilization of t… Show more

“…This working hypothesis was applied to the crystallization of MSE phase without the use of any OSDA. As a result, fine tuning of the starting gel including alkaline contents enabled the seed-assisted, OSDA-free synthesis of MSE-type zeolite (designated as MSEOSDAF) 23) , and the optimal ratio of K/[Na K] was found to be 0.067. Accordingly, syntheses were carried out by adding the calcined MCM-68 seeds (Si/Al 11) to OSDA-free (Na, K)-aluminosilicate gels with the molar composit i o n 1.0S i O2 _ 0.3[ N a2O K2O ] _ 0.01A l2O3 _ 20H2O .…”

“…This hypothesis provides us with information to select the favorable synthesis conditions (gel composition, synthesis temperature, and so on) of OSDA-free systems of the target zeolite by considering the common CBUs between both zeolites without the trial-and-error experiments. Several zeolites such as PAU- [24], MAZ- [25], and MSE-type [26] zeolites have successfully synthesized by applying the hypothesis.…”
