Effect of ZnO type and concentration on the mophology, thermal, and mechanical properties of poly(ether ester)/ZnO composites

Abstract: Poly(ether ester) (PEE) copolymers were synthesized in a two-stage process involving transesterification and polycondensation. The synthesized copolymer and the zinc oxide (ZnO) were used in composite preparation by melt compounding. The influence of ZnO type and concentration on the morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of the composites were studied. DSC and XRD analyses indicated that crystallinity of composites was slightly reduced with ZnO content. Homogeneous dispersion of fillers in the polymer … Show more

“…Figure 2 shows the spectrum of PCT50 as an example. The peaks at 2941 and 2862 cm −1 are assigned to the asymmetric and symmetric aliphatic C–H stretching vibrations of PBT [ 10 ]. C=O stretching peak and ester group skeleton peak are observed at 1715 and 1268 cm −1 , respectively.…”

“…Many attempts have been made to improve its properties. Celebi et al attempted to add TiO 2 or ZnO particles to the PBT-b-PTMG to improve its thermal stability, storage modulus, and mechanical properties [ 10 ]. Zhang et al partially substituted aromatic segment PBT with aliphatic poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) to accelerate the degradation rate [ 11 ].…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, an investigation on thermal conductivities of poly(ether ester)s concerned mainly with the relationships between thermal conductivities of the composites and the filler size, concentration and surface treatment has not been reported to date. In our previous study, the synthesis and characterization of PEE matrix and also the mechanical, thermal properties (characterized through DSC [Differential Scanning Calorimetry] and DMA [Dynamic Mechanical Analyses]) and morphologies of the resulted PEE/ZnO composites were reported . DSC analysis indicated that crystallinity of composites was slightly reduced with the increase in the ZnO concentration.…”
