To understand the role of molecular structure on the crystallization behavior of copolyester in thermoplastic poly(ether ester) elastomers (TPEEs), series of poly(butylene-co-1,4-cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate) (P(BT-co-CT))-b-poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) are synthesized through molten polycondensation process. The effects of poly(cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate) (PCT) content on the copolymer are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation chromatographs (GPC), wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), mechanical, and visible light transmittance tests. FT-IR and NMR results confirm the incorporation of PCT onto the copolymer. WAXD and DSC indicate that the crystalline structure of the copolymers changed from α-PBT lattice to trans-PCT lattice when the molar fraction of PCT (MPCT) is above 30%, while both crystallization and melting temperatures reach the minima. An increase in MPCT led to an increase in the number sequence length of PCT, the thermal stability and the visible light transmittance of the copolymer, but to a slight decrease in tensile strength and elastic modulus.

A thermoplastic poly(ether ester) elastomer (TPEE) is composed of polyester hard segments and polyether soft segments. Polyester and polyether segments are often homopolymer segments. This work aims at incorporating poly(butylene phthalate (PBP) as co-hard segments in the hard segments of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)-b-poly(tetramethylene oxide) (PTMO) thermoplastic elastomer, and investigating structures and properties of the resulting materials, denoted as (PBT-co-PBP)-b-PTMO. (PBT-co-PBP)-b-PTMO was synthesized from dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), dimethyl phthalate (DMP), PTMO (M n 5 1000 g/mol), and 1,4-butanediol (BDO). The crystallinity of (PBT-co-PBP)-b-PTMO first decreased and then increased with increasing PBP content from 5% to 10% due to a decrease in the average sequence length of the PBT hard segments. Its elongation at break was increased by 200-350%. When the mass fractions of PBT and PBP were 42% and 8%, respectively, the (PBT-co-PBP)-b-PTMO showed the best performance in terms of permanent deformation, strength, and hardness whose values were 30%, 25 MPa, and 37 D, respectively. It was aimed to investigate how thermal conductivity and stability properties of synthesized thermoplastic elastomers were influenced by zinc oxide (ZnO) additives which differed in size and surface treatment. ZnO particles were prepared by the homogeneous precipitation method by mixing aqueous solutions of hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) and zinc nitrate. The obtained particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) was used as a modifier to reduce aggregation among the ZnO particles. The composites, prepared by melt compounding method, were characterized in terms of their morphology and thermal properties. Uniformly distributed surface treated particles caused an enhancement in thermal conductivity properties. At 10 wt% ZnO concentration the thermal conductivity of composite reached 1.7 W/mK compared with 0.3 W/mK for the neat polymer. At the same filler loading, ZnO nanoparticles exhibited a greater effect on thermal conductivity compared with submicron sized particles. It was found that the coefficient of thermal expansion of composites decreased at low temperature (55 C) with increasing ZnO content. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the neat polymer and the composites were resistant up to 340 C without significant mass loss.
