Effects of Poly(cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate) on Microstructures, Crystallization Behavior and Properties of the Poly(ester ether) Elastomers

Abstract: To understand the role of molecular structure on the crystallization behavior of copolyester in thermoplastic poly(ether ester) elastomers (TPEEs), series of poly(butylene-co-1,4-cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate) (P(BT-co-CT))-b-poly(tetramethylene glycol) (PTMG) are synthesized through molten polycondensation process. The effects of poly(cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate) (PCT) content on the copolymer are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic reso… Show more

“…One of the most widely utilized polymers is poly (1,4-cyclohexanedimethylene terephthalate) (PCT), an aromatic semicrystalline polyester [ 15 ]. The cyclohexylene ring of CHDM flips from e,e- trans structure to a,a- trans at room temperature via twisted-boat conformation, enhancing chain mobility [ 16 ].…”

“…They probably differ in several physicochemical properties, the molecular weight being one of them [40]. The GPC-RALS method allows the determination of the Number Average Molecular Weight (Mn) and Weight Average Molecular Weight (Mw), as well as the polydispersity (Mw/Mn) [41]. The Mn can be defined as Total mass of material divided by the total number of molecules, meanwhile the Mw can be described as the total mass of material multiplied by the molecules mass.…”

“…The degree of crystallinity (X c ) of samples was calculated as follows: Xc=∆Hm()exp÷∆Hm()cal×100% where ∆ H m (exp) is the experimentally determined melting enthalpy and ∆ H m (cal) is the melting enthalpy of 100% crystalline PCT, which is calculated by adopting a group contribution theory …”
