Effect of Zn and B on the Growth and Nutrient Uptake in Groundnut

Abstract: Aims: To investigate the effect of combination between foliar zinc and boron on groundnut growth, yield, nutrient uptake and its accumulation in pods. Study Design:  Completely random design (CRD). Place and Duration of Study: Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Nadia, West Bengal, India during 2016. Methodology: The pot experiment was comprised of three levels of Zn (0, 0.5 and 0.75% Zn), three levels of B (0, 0.3 and 0.45% B) and their combinations. The treatments were replicated thrice. … Show more

“…Harikrishna et al [5] concluded that "application of boron @ 1.5% + molybdenum @ 1.5 kg ha -1 significantly increases the dry weight plant -1 (41.66 g), crop growth rate (7.84 g m -2 day -1 ), number of pods plant -1 (21.16), pod yield (3.73 t ha -1 ) and haulm yield (10.73 t ha -1 ) of groundnut over control". Ramprosad et al [6] found that "application of boric acid @ 0.30% prominently increased the pod yield (30.77 g plant -1 ) of groundnut over control (RDF alone)".…”

“…Ramprosad et al [6] found that "application of boric acid @ 0.30% foliar spray gave significantly higher N (37.1 mg g -1 ), P (6.2 mg g -1 ), K (8.0 mg g -1 ) content in groundnut over control. Haneena et al [20] noted that maximum boron content (0.73, 0.65 and 0.59 mg kg -1 at peg penetration, pod development and harvest stages respectively) was recorded in soil application of borax @ 12.5 kg B ha -1 along with RDF as compared to control" [21,22].…”

“…Salicylic acid and naphthalene acetic acid are plant growth regulators that can influence various aspects of plant development. When applied to plants, they can stimulate cell elongation, leading to increased leaf size and, consequently, an increase in leaf area [6].…”

“…Through the cuticle layer, which is partially permeable to water and solutions, the importance and role of the leaves are equal to the roots in terms of the ability to absorb, transport, and distribute nutrients in the crop plants. Nandi's et al (2020) findings revealed that foliar application of zinc on the field peanut plants led to an increase in the leaf area at the flowering and pod formation stages. Zinc alone led to an increase in the chlorophyll content in the leaves, which eventually increased the yield of field peanut plants.…”
