“…The requirement was to go to high strength tough alloys. Working at high temperature properties implies good stress corrosion cracking resistance [1][2][3][4][5] . In order to achieve this goal, microalloying with transition or rare earth elements such as Ni, Co, Sc, Zr, Yb, Cr and Er 1,[6][7][8][9] is an effective method in attaining this objective.…”

“…Aluminum and its alloys are very important material because of their wide use in many industries. They are used in the aviation, aerospace and automotive industries, in the production of military hardware, in ship building and household appliances [2][3][4]. Their usefulness is derived from their very good mechanical and physical properties such as their weight-to-high strength ratio, good machining properties, recyclability, and their outstanding corrosion resistance.…”

“…Popoola et al [37] confirm that in aggressive environment, the protective film on the surface of aluminum usually breakdown leading to initiation and further propagation of pits. The authors studied the corrosion inhibition of aluminum alloy in 2 M HCl and HNO 3 with Arachis hypogaea natural oil as an inhibitor using potentiodynamic polarization and gravimetric techniques at 25°C. The obtained results showed that Arachis hypogaea oil in 2 M HCl and HNO 3 -solutions decreased the corrosion rate of aluminum alloy at different concentrations of inhibitor considered.…”

“…Furthermore, a morphological evolution of precipitates or secondary phases is achieved by adding appropriate amount of Yb [19][20][21] . Consequently, alloys with Yb modification exhibit enhanced performances in terms of mechanical properties 11,15,19 , corrosion resistance 13,18,22 , and thermal stability 10,21 compared with the unmodified counterparts.…”

“…Recent studies focused mostly on microstructure and mechanical properties under the aged and deformed Ybcontaining alloys 15,19,20,22 . However, few reports are available concerning the homogenization treatment on Mg-Zn-Yb alloys.…”
