“…Germination percentage and length of embryonic axis and root were measured after every 24 h interval for 7 days. The speed or duration of germination index was calculated according to the method of Carley and Watson [14] and germination vigor index by paper towel method of Abdul-Baki and Anderson [15]. Membrane fraction of seedlings, following 6 h presoaking of seeds, was prepared according to the method described by Hodges and Leonard [16].…”

“…The sago factory effluent was taken in digestion bottles and inoculated with various concentrations (10,20,30,40 and 50% v/v) of the inocula (activated sludge, cow dung slurry and a mixture -1:1 v/ v -of these two) and incubated under aerobic and anaerobic condition at 27 AE 2 C for 10 days and analyzed for pollution parameters. To determine the optimum treatment period, selected inoculum at its optimum concentration was inoculated into effluent and incubated for 20 days both under aerobic and anaerobic conditions and the samples were withdrawn at regular time intervals of 2 days.…”

“…The effect of untreated and treated effluent on seed germination [19], speed of germination index [20], seedling development, vigour index [21] phytotoxicity and effluent tolerant index [22] and chlorophyll content [23] of the leaves of the seedlings were studied. Seedlings irrigated with distilled water served as control.…”

“…Some of them lay down the foundation of allelopathy. (Yardeni and Evenari, 1952): Earlier studies on effect of plant extracts on other plants were performed by Cannon etal (1962) and Carley and Watson (1968). Auti (2008) Tea and coffee are common beverages.…”
