ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan menetapkan waktu terjadinya luteinizing hormone (LH) surge pada kambing perah peranakan ettawah (PE) yang sedang laktasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan 8 ekor kambing betina dengan usia 2-2,5 tahun dan berat badan dengan kisaran 35-51 kg. Pemeriksaan LH surge dilakukan dengan menggunakan kit LH air susu. Semua kambing PE disinkronisasi estrus dengan implan controlled internal drug release for goats (CIDR-G) progesteron secara intravagina selama 10 hari dan penyuntikan prostaglandin pada hari ke-8 perlakuan sebelum pengeluaran alat CIDR-G. Deteksi estrus dilakukan dengan menggunakan pejantan kambing PE. Angka respons berahi adalah 50%. Hasil pemeriksaan LH surge menggunakan kit LH air susu menunjukkan hasil negatif, hal ini berarti bahwa kambing betina yang estrus tidak mengandung LH surge dalam air susunya pada pemeriksaan mulai 13-31 jam setelah berahi dengan interval waktu pemeriksaan 3 jam. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Kata kunci: kambing PE, sinkronisasi estrus, CIDR-G, LH ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the LH surge detection time using milk LH kits in lactating female ettawa goats. The study used 8 female goats with the age ranging from 2-2.5 years old and body weights in the range o f 35-51 kg. All female goats were previously synchronised using progesterone in the CIDR-G device inserted intravaginally for 10 days and were subsequently injected with prostaglandin on day 8 of CIDR-G insertion. Estrus was detected using one male goats which was introduced to the female goats group following the withdrawal of the CIDR-G devices. Oestrous rate was 50% following estrus synchronisation. The result of the study showed that all female goats did not have LH surge in their milk upon detection with LH kits in all detection time starting from 13 to 31 hours following oestrous signs. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Key words: ettawah goats, estrous synchronization, CIDR-G, LH PENDAHULUANKambing merupakan ternak ruminansia kecil yang sangat akrab bagi peternak di Asia, dan merupakan salah satu ternak yang dipopulerkan di Indonesia, hingga mencapai jumlah 15.209.702 ekor dengan tingkat laju populasi sebesar 2,2-4,3% tiap tahunnya (Mulyono dan Sarwono, 2004). Pada usaha ternak, proses reproduksi merupakan gerbang untuk menuju produksi maupun pelestarian ternak. Keberhasilan reproduksi akan meningkatkan dan mempertahankan keberadaan jenis ternak serta sangat erat kaitannya dengan laju ovulasi (Sutiyono et al., 2002) yang dipengaruhi oleh hormon follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) dan luteinizing hormone (LH). i AbstractLack of baseline quantitative data on the reproductive and productive performance of goats in Bali Province has limited our ability to identify factors that could lead to their improvement. This study aimed to rectify this lack of data and to measure constraints to, challenges of, and opportunities for improving goat production in Bali, through a hybrid method of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats and Analytic Hierarchy Process analyses.Data was collected through direct observations, structured formal household interviews, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and case studies as well as from the surrounding environment and market assessments from January to September 2014. This involved interviewing 175 households with 2,017 goats. Of these, 63 households with 1,169 goats were in Rendang District, Karangasem Regency; 44 households with 590 goats were in Banjar, Busungbiu and Grogak Districts in Buleleng Regency; and 68 households with 258 goats were in Mendoyo District, Jembrana Regency. Data was analysed by using descriptive statistics, correlate bivariate and general linear model multivariate using SPSS version 24.Results revealed that households had an average of 2.3 labourers with a ratio of 5.2 ± 0.4 goats per labourer who were aged 42 ± 1 year. This indicated that household labourers in Bali Province worked 412 ± 9.9 hours/household/year to look after 11.5 ± 0.9 goats/flock in either battery or colony housing with a cut and carry feeding system. Farmers cultivated on average 1.4 ± 0.05 ha/household with vegetables or commodity plantations integrated with goat rearing for 10.5 ± 0.7 years. Of the 175 farmers, 63%, 21% and 15% of farmers graduated from Grades 6, 9 and 12, respectively, and only one farmer graduated from university. This study generated new, important and detailed information on goat production by smallholder farmers in Bali Province. Suggested ways to improve goat production included: High performance (as indicated by GM/doe) was associated with a higher turn off rate (underpinned by a higher reproductive rate); Organic goat rearing management in Rendang District was a model for Bali; The ideal labourer to goat flock size ratio was 1:20 goats; At least 25% of the flock should be does, with a 75% annual turn off rate; The kidding interval should be 8 months; Does should only be kept up to their fourth or fifth kidding; Farmers need to keep records of their goats; A -One gate marketing system‖ should be used to maintain profitable market prices; and  Farmers needed networks with the Indonesia Research Institute for Animal Production to ensure quality breeds, feeds and efficient rearing goat management systems were used in Bali.
