Effect of trunk muscles training using a star excursion balance test grid on strength, endurance and disability in persons with chronic low back pain

Abstract: The results of our study show that core muscles strengthening using a SEBT grid are more effective than conventional programs. We hypothesize SEBT training to have a significant role in skill learning. We recommend SEBT grid training to be incorporated in the treatment planning of persons with CLBP.

“…The back extensor muscles play an essential role in motor control dysfunctions, such as limited balance in LBP (92). Star excursion balance exercises are suggested as a part of treatment plan in people with CLBP (93). Similarly, the present results showed significantly lower levels of balance capabilities in the LBP group when measured by a self-report scale.…”

“…The results of the review might have been influenced by the fact that they had included studies that satisfied non‐specific inclusion criteria for traction. Further, we had used supine or prone traction position as per requirements (Ganesh et al, ). The framework to classify traction subgroup is rather simple, and the first‐contact health providers might have classified those patients without clear mechanical symptoms to receive physician care leading to clear management strategies.…”

“…Resistance will be provided by using body weight or resistance bands to modify the difficulty of an exercise. The exercise dose used in this study is based on both the American College of Sports Medicine's minimum recommendations for maintaining health [40] and previous studies using a similar intensity and frequency in non-specific chronic LBP and knee OA populations [17,37,39,41,42]. Modified exercises and dose will be provided for participants that have difficulties reaching this dosage initially or if, for example, muscular endurance is more appropriate.…”
