Young motorcyclists are exposed to high noise exposure which can affect their cognitive function. This study was designed to evaluate the cognitive function of undergraduate University students (aged: 19-25) which ride a motorcycle as a primary mode of transportation. Total of 60 motorcyclists participated which were divided into two groups: an experimental group which performed neuropsychological battery test under motorcycle noise (≤90 dBA) and control group under controlled laboratory noise (≤65 dBA). The result showed significantly better cognitive performance (p < 0.05) of a control group. The results demonstrated that motorcycle noise significantly decreased the cognitive performance of the experimental group (p < 0.05).Keywords: Motorcycle noise; Motorcyclists; Neuropsychological assessment; Reaction-timeeISSN 2398-4295 © 2019. Inhibition is the key factor of attentional control (AC). Basketball players are typically exposed to noise from the audience or opposing teams while competing. These distractions disrupt the attentional systems, ultimately compromise the athletes’ inhibition ability and directly affect their performance on the court. Hence, effective AC strategies are crucial. Two studies were demonstrated to investigate the effects of noise distractions on attentional control and the moderating effect of self-talk. In Study 1, 36 participants undertook the Stroop task, showing an increased error rate with noise distraction. Thirty-nine national second-level basketball players participated in Study 2, where they engaged in the Antisaccade task under both quiet and noise-distraction conditions, employing different self-talk strategies. Results showed that instructional self-talk reduced the antisaccade error rate in quiet conditions, while motivational self-talk increased the error rate under noise distractions. These findings suggests that noise distraction reduces AC. In competition scenarios, basketball players are required to appropriately implement self-talk strategies to improve AC and prevent potential counterproductive effects.

Noise pollution is an issue for the environment in fast-growing and expanding countries. It is commonly created within many industrial buildings, but it can also be found in traffic on highways, trains, and airplanes. Road workers, such as traffic aids and street sweepers, are highly exposed to noise levels that endanger their hearing. This research project aimed to assess the level of noise pollution exposure among TMC traffic aids and street sweepers, as well as the effects on their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The time range set by National Pollution Control Commission (NPCC) included morning, daytime, evening, and night time where were adapted in measuring the noise level. Designated Two (2) sampling locations within Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC) where traffic aids and street sweepers are primarily stationed. Based on the results, when compared to Department Administrative Order 2000-98 (DAO 2000-98) or the Mine Safety and Health Standards, all the noise levels measured in the 2 stations were all below 90 dB. Thus, traffic aides and street sweepers of TMC within 8 hours’ exposure are within the permissible limit. Unwanted noise mainly from heavy equipment such as bulldozer trucks, dump trucks, loaders, excavators, water trucks, and garbage trucks, as well as public transportation vehicles such as ambulances, buses, vans, and motorbikes are observable. Thus, it is recommended that further research to the community area will be carried out.
