Effect of topical anti-Streptococcus mutans IgY gel on quantity of S. mutans on rats’ tooth surface

Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the effect of anti-Streptococcus mutans IgY gel on quantity of S. mutans on rats' tooth surface. Sprague Dawley rats were exposed intraorally with S. mutans Xc and were fed a caries-inducing diet 2000. The 24 rats were divided into four groups: group A had their teeth coated with IgY gel; group B received sterilized water as a control; group C had their teeth coated with IgY gel starting on the 29 th day; and group D had their teeth coated with a gel without IgY. Plaque samples were… Show more

“…Os resultados obtidos identificaram que a IgY reduziu o potencial do S. mutans em formar biofilme e minimizou a interação com outras bactérias comumente encontradas na superfície dentária, tal qual a Actinomyces viscosus e a Lactobacillus spp. (Bachtiar et al 2016).…”

“…To our knowledge, this is the first study to explore the effect of nicotine on the cariogenic potential of S. mutans in vivo . Regarding the sample sizes ranged from 6 to 10 rats for each group in most caries studies,29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 we took 16 rats and divided them into two groups (n = 8). The results of our study provide striking evidence that nicotine promotes the attachment of S. mutans to dental surface and the development of caries in vivo , and it appears to be a promotion factor for the development of dental caries.…”

“…The HRP-conjugated anti-rabbit IgG was discarded, and the plate was washed three times with a washing buffer, followed by the addition of 50 µL of TMB (3,3',5,5'tetramethylbenzidine, Sigma-Aldrich; St. Louis, MO), and the plate was incubated for 5 minutes at room temperature. Then, 50 μL of stop solution (1 N sulfuric acid) was added, followed by measuring the optical density at 450 nm in the ELISA reader (AccuReader, M965/M965+; Metertech, Taipei, Taiwan) [25,26].…”
