Oxide nanoparticles embedded in a polymer matrix produce nanocomposites which are useful for optics and electronic applications. Yttrium oxide nanoparticles have received much attention due to their various properties and are signicantly used in fundamental and application oriented elds. The present paper reports the inuence of annealing temperature on the Y2O3:SiO2 nanocomposite prepared by solgel process. Y(NO3)3·4H2O and tetraethoxysilane were used as precursors and obtained powdered form of Y2O3:SiO2 composite. The powder sample was annealed at 500• C and 900• C for 6 h which were characterized by X-ray diraction, Fourier transform infrared and transmission electron microscope. X-ray diraction data described that the broadening of peaks decreases with increase in annealing temperature which may be due to the increase in particle size. Sample analyzed by Fourier transform infrared and transmission electron microscopy conrmed the grain size dependence on annealing temperature. Cubic phase of yttrium oxide crystal structure was obtained within the silica matrix. The nanocrystallites size has been calculated using DebyeScherrer formula, WilliamsonHall plot and transmission electron micrographs and compared at two dierent temperatures (a) 500• C and (b) 900• C.

Formation of nanocrystalline rare earth was prepared by solgel route, using tetra-ethoxysilane and Nd (NO3)3 as precursor materials and HCl as a catalyst. The prepared samples were submitted to thermal treatments at temperature 500∘C (5 hours) and 800∘C (10 hours). Structural changes were investigated by XRD, FTIR spectroscopy, and SEM. At 800∘C (10 hours) resulted in the formation of cubic Nd2O3 nanocrystallites with average size ∼ 20 nm.

Nanopowder binary oxides consisting of Yttrium oxide (Y2O3) and silicon dioxide (SiO2) was prepared by the chemical co precipitation method. The effect of process variables lattice strain of Y2O3:SiO2 was studied using Cental Composite design. The results revealed that the significant factors affecting lattice strain were concentrations and the rate/speed of addition/mixing of precoursors, value and duration of annealing temperature. The optimal calculated parameters were found to be annealing temperature -300 0 C, drop rate-20d/min, concentration of precursors1-1 (w/v), concentration of precursors2-40 mmol/l, lattice strain Ԑ≈.000121 . The formation of Y2O3:SiO2 was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies. The strain values are calculated from W-H plot for annealed samples.
