Effect of the water injection pressure on coal permeability based on the pore‐fracture fractal characteristics: An experimental study

Abstract: Coal seam water injection is a commonly used method by which to improve coal seam permeability. To reveal how this method can enhance coal permeability from the perspective of the pore‐fracture structure, the permeability and porosity of raw coal samples under different water injection pressures were tested. Low‐temperature nitrogen adsorption (N2GA) and high‐pressure mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) were employed to characterize the changes in the pore‐fracture structures of water‐injected coal samples. Mo… Show more

“…Fissures are the main migration channels of coal reservoir fluids. After water injection in boreholes, water is continuously transported to the surrounding area through the fracture system, 24 and Darcy's law is followed in the fractures. The seepage, diffusion and accumulation of fissure water into the matrix under the action of water pressure and capillary force is a mixed process with multiple movement mechanisms.…”

“…Based on the nonlinear pore elasticity theory and continuum mechanics, an anisotropic pore elastic damage model is proposed with considering gas–liquid–solid coupling effect for CSWI. , Using a finite element method and fully coupled implicit algorithm, the time-varying characteristics of water saturation and induced damage are calculated and analyzed in the process of CSWI, which reveals the mechanism of water saturation and damage evolution of the coal body. This will provide a theoretical basis for studying the time-sensitive characteristics of CSWI.…”

“…Coal resources are pivotal to providing fundamental energy support for a country's social and industrial development, and thus occupy a critical strategic position [1][2][3]. They are essential for power consumption in various industries, including building materials, electric power, metallurgy, and other sectors relevant to people's livelihoods.…”
