Effect of the REACT strategy on senior high school students’ achievement in molecular genetics

Abstract: Molecular genetics, a key concept in biology, is found to be very difficult for students at the senior high school level. A situation largely blamed on teachers' instructional approaches. Since the Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating and Transferring (REACT) strategy is reported to be an effective pedagogical approach for improving students' understanding of science concepts, in this paper, we sought to explore its effectiveness on Senior High School students' achievement in molecular genetics in Gha… Show more

“…This indicates that, the data shows that after the application, the academic performance of the experimental team's pupils with respect to the unit "Conduction of electricity" of 6th grade is higher than that of the team of control's pupils. Studies show that teaching with the strategy of REACT has a positive effect on pupils' academic success (Görmüş, 2021;Kaya, 2020;Quainoo et al, 2021). This result obtained from the literature supports the conclusion that teaching with the strategy of REACT has a positive effect on the pupils's academic performance.…”

“…This study shows that the application of learning with the REACT learning model can improve student achievement in accordance with the results of previous studies (Putri, . and Saputro, 2019;Quainoo, Otami and Owusu, 2021) sharing with each other in groups, students will revaluate and reformulate their understanding abilities.…”

“…On the other hand, students who work together in small groups tend to be able to overcome these complex problems with a little help from the teacher (Crawford, 2001). Seeing this phenomenon, the cooperative stage in the REACT learning model is a powerful strategy in answering this phenomenon (Bílgín, Yürükel and Yígít, 2017;Quainoo, Otami and Owusu, 2021). Working together with peers in small groups, will make you feel confident in asking questions without feeling embarrassed.…”

“…Furthermore, the problem-based learning model encourages students to think critically and analyze in learning (Farisi et al, 2017). The Relating Experiencing Applying Cooperating (REACT) approach is a learning approach that helps students be more active in learning (Ibrahim, 2018;Nurzannah et al, 2021;Quainoo et al, 2021). The REACT approach helps students more easily master and understand learning concepts so as to encourage students' 21st century thinking skills (Maltman, 2000;Putri et al, 2019).…”
