Effect of the Metal Phenylphosphonates on the Nonisothermal Crystallization and Performance of Isotactic Polypropylene

Abstract: The use of metal phenylphosphonates as efficient nucleating agents (NAs) for isotactic polypropylene (iPP) is reported and a possible structural correlation to the nucleation efficiency is studied. First, three kinds of metal phenylphosphonates are synthesized via reflux method: Ca(C 6 H 5 PO 3 )•2H 2 O (CaPPA), Ca(C 6 H 5 PO 3 H) 2 (CaPPA2), and Al(HO 3 PC 6 H 5 )(O 3 PC 6 H 5 ) •H 2 O (AlPPA2). Then, the nonisothermal crystallization behaviors, mechanical, and optical properties of iPP composites are investi… Show more

“…Polymer brushes offer added ability for customization of the local catalyst environments, as well as stimuli responsiveness. Stimuli responsiveness has been shown with thermally responsive photocatalytic brushes on silica nanoparticles that have been demonstrated for the hydrolysis of p‐nitrophenyl acetate [310] . On micron‐scale glass beads, stimuli responsiveness to heat has also been shown with NIPAAM comonomers used with fluorescein‐based photocatalytic polymer brushes to enhance photocatalytic activity upon heating [311] .…”

“…It is known that adding a nucleating agent (NA) is an effective method for obtaining high-performance materials, and that some chemically active NAs can also be used in new construction materials [6]. The impact of the nucleating agents is very critical to the final performance of PP, since they can affect the mechanical, transparency and crystallization properties by changing the crystallization behavior and intermolecular force [7][8][9].…”

“…In recent decades, thermoplastics have attracted more and more attention of scientists and engineers due to their excellent properties such as good strength and rigidity, excellent chemical resistance and moisture resistance, ease of processing and low production cost [1][2][3][4][5]. Polypropylene (PP) is widely used in the plastics processing industry as a semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer [6].…”
