“…Moreover, it has become clear that Hoelen has inhibitory activities on TPA induced inflammation (Nukaya et al, 1996;Cuellar et al, 1997) and phospholipase A 2 (Cuellar et al, 1996) that induces the liberation of arachidonic acid, which is the precursor of many eicosanoids responsible for inflammatory responses. So, Hoelen, inhibitor of phospholipase A 2 , may have a favorable action on certain diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, autoimmune uveitis, septic shock and bronchial asthma (Kaiser et al, 1990;Mukherjee et al, 1992) The direct protection of RBC membrane from freeradical attack as observed in the present study would provide an important pathophysiological basis for making use of helpful hemorrheological and anti-atherosclerotic effects of Hoelen.…”

“…Previous studies have demonstrated that the surface layer of P. cocos has a remarkable diuretic effect (Zhao et al 2012;Feng et al 2013a), which has been tested for treatment of early renal injury and chronic kidney disease in rats (Zhao et al 2013a-c); Furthermore, dried sclerotia of P. cocos was verified to have anti-inflammatory and hypoglycemic effects in prediabetes mellitus rats (Lee et al 2014). Triterpenes as the major active compounds of P. cocos are mainly derived from a lanostane skeleton (Rios 2011), which have been reported to manage psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, septic shock, autoimmune uveitis and bronchial asthma (Cuellar et al 1997;Giner et al 2000;Spelman et al 2006). However, the antiepileptic effects of triterpenes as well as underlying mechanisms remain to be determined.…”
