“…Additional excitation peaks at 310 -500 nm, caused by the f -f transitions of Tb 3+ , are observed [26]. 7 The excitation spectra of Ba 0.88-x Al 2 Si 2 O 8 :0.12Eu 3+ ,xTb 3+ (0≤x≤0.12) phosphors monitored at 612 nm are shown in Fig. 4(a).…”

“…There are three different cation sites in the BaAl 2 Si 2 O 8 host, i.e., a twelve-coordinated Ba 2+ and two seven-coordinated Al 3+ and Si 4+ [7,13]. The ionic radius of Eu 3+ (1.066 Å) and Tb 3+ (1.04 Å) is closer to that of Ba 2+ (1.42 Å) in comparison with that of Al 3+ (0.39 Å) and Si 4+ (0.26 Å) [7,[14][15][16]. It is thus expected that Eu 3+ and Tb 3+ ions occupy Ba 2+ sites in the host lattice.…”

“…Besides, the contents of all elements except for Ce are equal. Therefore, the lattice expansion causes the diffraction peaks to shift toward a small angular direction 18,19 .…”

“…The Ba 2+ is occupied between the sheets with 12 equidistant oxygen neighbours to compensate for the charge difference between Al 3+ and Si 4+ . 13 The Eu 3+ ions may occupy the Ba 2+ site in the host lattice because the ionic radius of Eu 3+ (1.066 Å) is similar to that of Ba 2+ (1.42 Å) in comparison with other Si 4+ and Al 3+ ions. The ionic radii of Al 3+ and Si 4+ are 0.39 and 0.26 Å, respectively.…”
