Effect of Solution Heat Treatment and Artificial Aging on Compression Behaviour of A356 Alloy

Abstract: Aluminium alloys are subjected to heat treatment to increase the strength and corrosion properties. This paper aims to study the effect of heat treatment on the compression behaviour of A356 alloy under quasi static condition and barreling effect. The various heat treatments are: (i) solution heat treatment of 1 h at 540 °C + natural aging 0 h + artificial aging at 180 °C up to 5.5 h, (ii) solution heat treatment of 3 h at 540 °C + natural aging for 20 h + artificial aging at 180 °C up to 5.5 h, and (iii) solu… Show more

“…The heat-treatable nature of AlSi7Mg0.3 also enables further improvement of its mechanical properties through solution heat treatment and ageing. Despite its advantages, the presence of Fe and other impurities in the recycled aluminium scrap can negatively impact the microstructure and properties of AlSi7Mg0.3 alloys, thus, requiring careful selection of raw materials and precise control of casting conditions [5][6][7][8].…”

“…Thickness of SiC was 3.1 g/cm 3 and normal molecule size of 20 µm. It is extremely hard and solid material [12]. SiC when heated to 1200 °C, an oxide layer is deposited on the particles and these particles can be operated up to a temperature of 1600 °C.…”
