Effect of Sodium Hydroxide Concentration in Synthesizing Zinc Selenide/Graphene Oxide Composite via Microwave-Assisted Hydrothermal Method

Abstract: The effect of NaOH solution on the formation of nanoparticles has been the subject of ongoing debate in selenium-based material research. In this project, the robust correlation between the mechanistic growth of zinc selenide/graphene oxide (ZnSe/GO) composite and the concentration of NaOH are elucidated. The ZnSe/GO composite was synthesized via microwave-assisted hydrothermal method and the concentrations of NaOH are controlled at 2 M, 3 M, 4 M, 5 M and 6 M. The XRD spectra show that the crystal phases of th… Show more

“…In the synthesis of the larger AgNPs, ammonium hydroxide caused faster reaction kinetics, having a promotion of hydrolysis, favoring the formation of particles of larger size [ 51 ] with more stable sizes [ 50 , 52 ]. As for 5.4 nm AgNP, the addition of sodium hydroxide promoted a sudden temperature gradient that resulted in rapid nucleation, thus inhibiting the growth of the particles [ 53 , 54 ] and limiting the particle agglomeration associated with the electrical charge [ 41 , 55 ]. Despite those reports, some variations might occur during the synthesis process.…”

“…42−44 Solvent in a hydrothermal environment could enhance the solubility of reactants, which was essential for facilitating reaction and crystal growth. 45 Acids, alkaline, and organic solvents were commonly used as solvent in the hydrothermal process. 46 In addition, mineralizers including NaOH, KOH, and NaBF 4 , which played a crucial role in the hydrothermal process, could influence the morphology, size, and crystallinity of the products.…”

“…It cannot be ruptured under normal mechanical pressure or impact. Due to its excellent chemical and physical properties, ZnSe has been widely used in solar cells, lasers, logic gates, flat panel displays and transistors [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ]. Recently, ZnSe has garnered tremendous interest because of its valuable potential for both basic physical research and applications in micro-nano component construction.…”
