Effect of selenium on freezing-thawing damage of mice spermatogonial stem cell: a model to preserve fertility in childhood cancers

Abstract: Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a rare, highly treatable form of acute myeloid leukemia (1). The paucity of studies conducted in Central and South America hint towards a higher prevalence of APL among descendants of Spaniards, as compared to other ethnic groups (2-4). At present, a comprehensive study that delineates potential disparities in APL incidence across Europe has yet been reported.T h e r e f o r e , w e c o n d u c t e d a p o p u l a t i o n -b a s e d study to assess APL incidence across Eur… Show more

“…Infertility occurs in almost one-third of the young boy's cancer survivors due to toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy drugs [15]. Freezing and long-term preservation of SSCs as an effective method for restoration of fertility is one of the most important subjects in clinical and research field [23,24]. Previous studies showed that normal function of SSCs decreases after the freeze-thaw process due to cryoinjuries.…”

“…Oeda et al [80] reported that incubating human semen with 1 mg/mL NAC for https://doi.org/10.5653/cerm.2023.06016 20 minutes at room temperature significantly lowered ROS levels and improved sperm motility. Boroujeni et al [81] found that rinsing with 5 μg/mL selenium after thawing can enhance human sperm parameters and survival. Fontoura et al [82] found that adding leptin, a hormone that regulates food intake behavior, to human sperm prior to freezing supports antioxidant enzyme activity and provides additional antioxidant protection.…”

“…Both pathways terminates to caspase proteins, and the pathways become common from the level of caspase3 (3). Among the apoptosis proteins, Bcl2 (as a member of Bcl2 family) is an inhibitory protein while Fas, Bax and P53 are activating proteins (4).…”
