Simultaneously Patterson, Milstrey & Stokstad (1957) were working on the isolation, from casein or pig tissues, of a factor which prevented exudative diathesis in chicks fed upon diets containing torula yeast. Ash from concentrates, made in the presence of alkali, was protective, but ash made in the presence of acid was inactive.…”
